During the whole Favre saga this offseason...you had Mort and Clayton and all of the talking heads "guaranteeing" this and that...I heard several sound bites of these guys guaranteeing he'd stay retired...

If Cowher gets offered everything he wants and his family gives him the thumbs up, he'll be back...I don't listen to these talking heads...they can steer you in the right direction but guarantees mean nothing.

My bet is that Broncos go after a successful D coordinator like Titans Schwartz while leaving the offense to OC's Rick Dennison and Bates. Just a feeling but Bowlen has been embarrassed by this D one too many times and will be looking for a change more on that side of the ball.

I'm fine with a defensive focus, obviously... I don't need the next coach in Denver to be a big name at all. I just want them to be smart about it.

The Broncos have a nice young foundation on offense and solid pieces on both sides, but the defense really needs focus.

I can't think of anything solid on that defense other than an aging Champ Bailey...but maybe I didn't pay enough attention to Denver this year.

There's several young guys with nice promise and who knows... if a defensive minded coach comes in with the right scheme, guys like Thomas, Crowder and Moss may actually lose bust status. Do they really suck or is it Shanahan's inability over the last decade to build defense. There has been zero consistency with the defensive staff and schemes.

I could live with Shanny here. coming here would be just another slap in crazy Al's face. LOL

I think Shanny wants some time off and Bowlen and Shanny agree that the gig is up in Bronco-land, and Bowlen firing him is a favor that ensures Shanny a paycheck during his vacation whether it be for a year, two or three.

I think the chances of this being less than amicable or Shanny coaching anywhere else in 2009 or even 2010 are very remote.

It got pretty crazy when you guys basically traded for the entire crappy Browns line. That's a move that looks just as crazy in hindsight as it did at the time.
