Keep deluding yourself.

Dude, it's going to be a tag and trade. Veach will sign an Andre Dillard type for insurance and look to the draft.

We're not going to overpay for anyone.

Sassy Squatch 02-20-2023 03:35 PM

Veach offered essentially a 5 year 95 million contract with a 30 million signing bonus and the first 2 years guaranteed. Brown and his agent wanted a 6 year 140 million contract with most of it guaranteed. If negotiations start near that point again, it's a nonstarter. He'll be tagged and traded unless both sides are willing to move, significantly.

milkshock 02-20-2023 03:37 PM

Veach trusts Mahomes, Kelce, Reid and probably Jones, and thats it. No one else will get the red carpet treatment.

And rightfully so.

Look Veach doesnt seem like the kind of guy who appreciates being made a fool of. Signing Brown now to an inflated contract, when he played hardball and tagged him last offseason doesnt seem typical behaviour for him. These are the kind of ridiculous moves that were made by Dorsey and hurt us in the end.

So you think Veach is going to let his emotions and pride seep into this negotiation?

He doesn't look at this like you do. You can be assured of that.

smithandrew051 02-20-2023 03:42 PM

I trust whatever Veach does.

They literally offered him a contract last year that would have made him the highest paid OT in the league.

I don’t think it’s a question of that. I think it’s all in the structure of the contract.

That's a possible scenario. Nowhere near as realistic as them retaining him but it's a possibility.

Here's the deal:

I'm plenty comfortable predicting he'll back because I truly feel he will be. If I'm wrong, all I'm out is a little ridicule on CP. As if that's a big deal at all. ROFL

If they bring him back, cool. I don't care. I'll be focusing on draft prospects anyway.

They've been to 5 straight AFCCG and appears in 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls. I'm done being emotionally invested in offseason moves they do or don't make.

I've simply stripped all of the emotion out of it at this point, unlike many in this thread.

Our interior O-line is legendary. I don't think I've seen Patrick more fazed by anything on a football field more than pressure up the middle, so I am 100% okay with that. Once Patrick got the trust to step into his throws, it allowed OBJ (and eventually Wylie), to flush out speed rushers behind Patrick, the exact opposite of what he was used to with Schwartz and Fish.

Never thought I'd see an interior group come close to Shields-Wiegmann-Waters, but holy hell this group is doing just that.

No, I don't think it's THAT.

I just think Veach is pretty ruthless and isn't going to overpay anyone not named Patrick Mahomes. I think he trusts his scouts and himself to field a team and he's not going to panic.

He probably views us as being the Patriots during their peak years - more or less a plug and play team with Brady the constant.

Totally.

Look, if I thought there was any way in hell Brown and his neophyte agent were going to be reasonable, I would say, yeah-100% he's back.

But last offseason told me that there's nothing resembling reason happening in that camp.

And Veach is not going to panic and overspend, he showed that in the Hill negotiations. He's going to have a line in the sand which he will not cross and will pivot instead.

I don't think Brown is going to be reasonable is all, and I think Veach will tag and trade to someone who WILL be willing to overpay.

Someone'll do it. Just not us.

He should.

If we go the Dillard-ish route and choose not to re-sign Brown they really need to get a veteran RT (if we don't resign Wylie).

Brown didn't even have an agent at this time last year and didn't get one until the process was almost over. For all we know, he's spent the last year telling Brown that his demands were unreasonable.

Sassy Squatch 02-20-2023 04:02 PM

Or Brown spent most of the negotiating window looking for an agent dumb and new enough to present his demands as is
