If he plays as well as he’s capable, it will be very hard to justify letting him go. That said, my guess is they’ll take the comp pick he’s going to bring if he earns a big contract and move on. It’s just how they seem to roll these days.

So, I asked a couple buddies of mine here in PHX about DJ, to get a Cards fan perspective. In a nutshell, he was well-liked by fans/teammates, everyone fells he had a lot of talent, particularly as a run-blocker. However, he has been guilty of drawing a lot of false start flags, has some focus issues. But overall, was a consistent pass-protector most of the time.

What if Smith doesn't ask for the bag, and instead wants a nice contract so he can keep playing with his best friend?

Is there a cap number that makes you want Smith back?

I feel like Hunt being the main back doesn't really help Smith, but Pacheco seems to make the entire offensive line better because of his style versus Hunt's style. I can't really break down why exactly, as I am at work, but I feel like other people will understand what I mean.

The revolving door at LT and WR needs to stop, however I am losing faith in Veach's abilities in drafting long term solutions outside of DBs
