Pitt has won 2 SB's and lost 1 because they have some defense and surrounding talent.

Same thing for the Giants.

The Ravens have been annual contenders because of team talent.

Any team can make a 1 year run but you need a balanced team to sustain success.

NE may be an exception but thats because the Brady/BB combo is simply even better than Brees, Manning, Rodgers and basically anyone else over that span.

They haven't sniffed SBs but because of said qbs, they've been and will be contenders each year.

"Any" team can't make a one year run, teams that have/get elite qb play can make a one year run.

O.city 08-23-2013 12:55 PM

And the reason, IMO, they haven't "sniffed" a SB, isn't because they have to play to such an elite level that the margin of error is paper thin its just nearly impossible to keep up.

I agree you have a better chance with a good QB, no shit, but fact is you need a team.

Eli and Raplisburger have 2 rings each.

You think they are better than Peyton, Rodgers and Brees?

4 years and 3 years respectively.

Rodgers has never won a playoff game outside of their SB season and the "best QB in the NFL" has lost 2 consecutive home playoff games when they had HFA wrapped up.

Team game.

Obviously not.

But that also shows that you can't just have a good team, you have to get upper level qb play to win SBs.

Were the ravens the best team in the NFL last year?

No the question is was Flacco the best QB in the NFL last year?

Before the playoffs he may have been around 15th.

To answer your question they were pretty damn balanced.

The Ravens contend year after year after year because of that, even when Flacco laid turds in the playoffs which he did many many times.

If not a perennially good QB,then an extended run of good-to-great QB play.

i.e. Big Ben, Eli, Flacco.

Jeff Webb was a WR for KC for about 10 minutes and probably could have played QB as well as Joe Webb in that game.

He's not putting up elite numbers. I'd be surprised if he puts up 4100 yards and 27 touchdowns.

He's a very good QB, but I don't think he'll ever be "elite". In my mind, elite is top 5. I don't think Flacco in his career will ever be a top 5 QB.

In today's nfl, IMO, you don't necessarily have to have an elite qb to win SBs like it once was. The gap between the elite and the good, isn't as big as it once was, and said "good" players have the ability to play at an elite level.

There was a time where it made more difference, if that makes any sense, because the gap between them and the rest was so large and they were that good

I would say the rule changes making things tougher on defenses to cover the WR and the inability to touch the QB without a flag making defenses less aggressive has leveled things off some.

*Yes, This is the exact same shit we heard from NE fans when Cassel came.
*We are butt-hurt over not drafting and developing a valid QB since Todd Blackledge.

There are fans from other teams that are respected on this forum.
Broncos, Chargers, Seahawks, and Rams to name a few.

I don't know if Aikman was an elite QB. He never threw for more than around 3400 yards.

He was a great player on some all-time great teams.

But I guess he's a HOFer now, so that could retrospectively make him an elite QB.

He never had to because that team almost always had an elite running game.

He could make every throw with phenomenal velocity and accuracy, and had a disgustingly awesome deep ball.
