****Official 2015 Missouri Tigers Football Thread****
Mauk's suspension will continue thru this week as expected.
@oscargambler: Maty Mauk will be suspended through Saturday's game. I've been told he'll be suspended at least the rest of the month. |
Quote:
I think he's pretty raw, so he might not contribute until 3 years into the program, but the upside looks really high. Great athlete. |

Did Josh Moore get a sack? The announcers credited him with one, but I didn't see it in the box scores.

So what's the story on Mauk? Seeing lots of insinuations elsewhere that he got busted with coke?
|

So has this turned into a legal situation, or are they just handling it internally?

From what I've heard elsewhere, a teammate turned him in for using (not selling) blow. Maty knows who it is, as he had been telling Mauk to knock it off or he was going to the coaches about it. That's the rumor I'm hearing anyway. If I find out something tomorrow, I'll share it. |

Considering that Cuellar was reinstated/is back on the depth chart, I don't think the worst of the rumors are true.
Probably a good thing. |
MU gets 16th commit for class of 2016 (Acy)
http://www.columbiatribune.com/blogs...e14bbac54.html Missouri picked up its second commitment in three days Monday. DeMarkus Acy, a 6-foot-3, 180-pound safety from Wilmer-Hutchins High School in Dallas, pledged for the Tigers a day after he got back from a campus visit to Columbia and two days after Valley (Ala.) High School defensive end Tyreic Martin committed to the Tigers. Acy is Missouri's 16th commit for the recruiting class of 2016 and its second safety, following Greg Taylor, who signed with the Tigers out of East St. Louis (Ill.) High School in 2014 but has been at Hinds (Miss.) Community College for the past two seasons. According to Rivals.com, Acy also has offers from schools such as Arizona State, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas Tech. All four major online recruiting services rate Acy as a three-star prospect, with Scout.com ranking him the No. 31 safety in his class, ESPN.com ranking him No. 58 and 247Sports.com ranking him No. 71. Through only five games this season, Acy has 78 tackles and an interception, according to his Maxpreps.com profile. Acy is the fourth Texas prospect to commit to the Tigers for next year's class, following Cypress Falls linebacker Trey Baldwin, Manvel offensive lineman Mackenzie Nworah and George Ranch running back Darius Anderson, all of whom are from the Houston area. Missouri did not sign any recruits from Texas in this year's class, a first in the Gary Pinkel era. What sort of player is he? "DeMarkus is our Marcus Murphy. He's just the defensive version of Marcus Murphy. Kind of how Marcus was at Missouri, just a guy you could count on to do pretty much anything: run kicks, catch punts, all that stuff. Acy does that for us. His permanent position is a cornerback, but he does kickoff returns, punt returns, he plays in the slot, he's our Wildcat quarterback. Just a tremendous athlete. Absolutely tremendous." Missouri wants him as a safety. How would he translate there? "I'm going to be honest with you. It kind of made me feel good Missouri wants him to play safety and he committed to Missouri to go play safety. We kind of felt like he's an elite corner. But what we teach our kids is the best DBs can play all those positions back there: safety, corner, nickel, rover. Doesn't really matter. With him, he's so versatile that I could see Missouri wanting him to play at safety, because he's physical, he's long, he can run but, at the same time, when you need him to match up with a tall receiver and he's got to play some corner, he'll be able to do that, too." What makes you say he's an 'elite' corner? "I'll put it to you this way. If I had a choice and they said, 'Pick a player int he Dallas-Fort Worth area that you're going to build a team with,' -- outside of maybe a quarterback -- the first person I'd take would be DeMarkus Acy. His cornerback skills -- and we've had players go on and play Division-I ball before -- but his defensive back skills are second to none. His range is unbelievable. His arms are incredibly long. He's physical for his frame. And, of course, being a state qualifier in the 200 as well as the 4x2, he's got elite speed. When you look at a guy that long, that fast, that physical and can cover anybody, can pretty much run with anybody in Texas high school football, that's why I consider him elite." What did he like so much about Missouri? "I credit" safeties coach "Ryan" Walters "for that. Coach Walters, he's been at North Texas, OU, Memphis, he understands how to get in and hang in there with a kid and recruit the kid. What he did, he sold himself very early to DeMarkus as being able to coach him, but he sold Missouri the program, not just the football aspect of it. DeMarkus was looking at him leaving Texas or going somewhere and playing football, and that was it: 'I want to play college ball.' Well Ryan kind of put it in the scope of, 'Let me tell you what it's like up here at Missouri.' I've been there before because the starting safety at Tennessee" LaDarrell McNeil "he played here, so I was there a couple years ago for the Tennessee-Missouri game, when they had the big quarterback, James Franklin. It was extremely beautiful, and I told" Acy "he would like the area, would like the environment. We were there as Tennessee fans and everybody was extremely excited about us being there. The hospitality was great, and that's what Acy needs. He needs to be in the situation where people just really appreciate their football. Missouri has a way of just appreciating athletics in general. When you watch them on the SEC Network and how they talk about the program and Gary Pinkel and the things they do at the University of Missouri -- not just in football, but in all sports -- it's so inviting that it's hard for one of our kids to pass up an opportunity to play there." What's he like off the field? "Now, this is going to shock you, but this is the truth: DeMarkus is a nerd. When a kid is that good athletically, they're usually outspoken, flamboyant. He's none of that. Our homecoming dance is this Saturday. I am making him go. If I didn't make him go, he would be at home on a Saturday night just watching college football. He's not into being in the clubs. This kid is a nerd. What he wants to do, he's so focused on being good at whatever it is that he knows that if I really want to be great at something, I can't spend a lot of my time not working on what it is I want to be great at." How hard is Missouri trying to hit Dallas in recruiting? "When you look at what Missouri has done in the past with Dallas, DeSoto" Murphy's alma mater, "it's not like Missouri's not known here. We know Missouri football. We understand the Big 8, the Big 12, we understand all of that here. It's not like Missouri is a stranger in Dallas. A&M emerged and became this great recruiting juggernaut, Texas -- with what's going on there -- and Oklahoma's always had a presence here. So Missouri, they kind of recruit in a manner that they recruit for the kid that fits them. They're not so much into if a kid is a 12-star player, or 20. They don't care about that. They're looking for a kid that fits Mizzou. And if there was a kid that fit Missouri football and what I've seen in the past, it's this kid here. With Ryan there, he understands Dallas. He's going to be in Dallas. I look for the recruiting in Dallas to pick up tremendously." |

Got to love landing kids from Texas who have offers from UT and Oklahoma.

Good coach/QB combo for Florida.
Missouri also needs to stop helping them. Both TD drives featured 15-yard penalties. |
I'm so proud of Drew. Attaboy!

Ugh, Drew, Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

I got a bad feeling that this is going to be a good old fashioned ass-woopin...
|
Kenya Dennis is getting abused by Robinson. And I'm excited about Lock's future, but he's not there yet. We'll have a down year this year with things looking up next year and after. And it would be nice if our OL actually got their hands on the UF DL.

GREAT punt. And man, we miss a healthy running game.

We're watching the halftime highlights and my daughter asks, "How come all these teams are gettings touchdowns and we can't?". Welcome to your life, young Mizzou fan. Welcome to your life.

This offensive line is dog shit.

Lock reminds me of Blaine Gabbert way too much. Not good.

Don't get me wrong the O-line deserves pretty much all of the blame along with Ricker and Henson. They are terrible.

Fake injury to slow down momentum worked well there

Gabbert was making those same stupid mistakes his last year here....or do I have to remind you of the Bowl Game against Iowa? |
Hard lessons learned tonight..
|
Well, that sucked.
Gave up on the run game way too early, and Lock definitely got rattled. Still a huge fan of his upside and am very glad he's taking lumps this season. It will pay off the next two-three years. |
Oh, and also... I wish Henson was as good at his job as Barry Odom is at his.
Odom lost a ton from last year's defense, and has it arguably playing better. That Florida offense carved up a very good and highly regarded Ole Miss defense last week, and Odom's squad held them to 14 points. |

Doesn't matter if there is no receiver, or the receiver isn't open. THROW DEEP! |

The offensive talent is just terrible (largely as a result of the shitiful '13 class, which has given us one offensive starter--Moore) and Ricker has done a horrible job with the OL and needs to get his pink sleep this offseason.
The defense played a damned good game after the first quarter, and even with it, held Florida to 330 yards and 14 points when they were on the field the entire game. |
Quote:
What's good is the defense we are building....can you imagine what we are going to be like next year? All the underclassmen on the defensive side who are getting reps this year....I think they are doing a heck of a job now, imagine how much fun it is going to be watching those guys pretty much tear up the field next year? |

I spent the last 3 quarters playing board games with the wife.
I knew from the first series it wasn't going to be pretty, but I am impressed with the Defensive effort. Ricker needs to go. |

Saul Good has chosen to break the truce agreement we all have regarding posting in each other's threads.
So here we go. Mizzou opens as a 16 point underdog to an unranked team that just lost their only offensive weapon to a devastating knee injury. Where should I put my money? |

And you should put your money on whatever team KU is playing plus the points. You can't lose that way. |

Which way should I put my money. MU can surely cover right? |
Why haven't wickedson and pb been mu'd yet?
|
Quote:
Maybe you should just adopt Baker as your college football team. They're in Kansas and likely look just like them on the field, but the competition in NAIA will probably allow for some pretty tight games? |
Mizzou is averaging less than 5 yards per play.
When does Locktober start? |

We're discussing MU here. Was I the only one who watched the game? 21-3 is hard to forget. You couldn't even score a touchdown. |

Might be a trend. Ranked SEC teams are dropping like flies. MU had the easiest path to the playoff this year according to Sports Illustrated. Saul Good says its a rebuilding year though. Rebuilding from what exactly? MU hasn't won a championship since 1969. |
|
Quote:
Yeah MU is bad at Offense and lost Florida. We know it and don't fet butt devastated over it. |
