I think that it's trying to stick to the comics in introducing a new "type" of zombie: the lurker. Not sure if they'll make more of it or not, but in the comics, it's a specific type:

Of course you're right that they should be careful and that was idiotic, but I don't think they'd yet encountered zombies that "played dead."

I know what you're saying. I read the graphic novel too. Those were introduced when Rick goes to Atlanta the first time if I remember correctly. And I can see why for story they may be doing that, but to me it's a little late in the game for something like that.

If you had survived as long as they have, then it's because your #1 rule is to be careful. To me that means that anything that looks dead, or is almost dead gets a spike in the brain, simple as that.

Rule #2 - Double tap!

Shit, even when they first cleared the yard, when Rick went to close the gate and Carl was being a marksman with a handgun, at the end of that scene they showed one zombie trying to get up again. If it's me, everything thats on the ground gets one more spike just to be sure.

Yeah, they had a similarly carefee attitude one time on the farm when they were loading up a bunch of walker corpses into a truck. Someone hopped right on the back of the tailgate and rested their arm on the corpses. I'm just thinking, 'What if one of them is still animated?'

Really nice episode. No way can they keep up that pace all season, but damn... good stuff.

If you've read the novels then you know that the intensity is only going to rise from here. This season will be a hellish roller coaster. I just hope the show can go as far as the novels do.

If you've read the novels:
Spoiler!

I guarantee you didn't notice that during the episode. I thought about holding back from posting this gif just because of it... but it's too awesome.

The funniest part of the riot gear zombie was Daryl shooting at arrow at the face guard, expecting it to penetrate.

I'd be pretty surprised if a crossbow bolt wouldn't go through that in reality.
