Peters comes to you after the season and says "pay me or trade me." He wants to be a 15-20mm/yr guy and wants it now. You think, "You're on a contract. We have the leverage." Peters responds that he'll sit out the entire season. And given his nature, you see this as a genuine threat. One might respond, "No way he'll walk away from the 2mm-ish he's set to earn this year." But from Peters's perspective, one season lost of 2mm in exchange for the potential of getting 15-20mm a year or two earlier than otherwise is still probably positive expected value on his part. Then you consider that the fan base is so polarized over this guy that it will be an epic PR disaster and overall team distraction if this guy sits out for a prolonged period of time, perhaps the entire season. Peters thus has a lot more leverage than initially anticipated and he knows it.

So your options are sign Peters to a long-term deal or trade him. Note: the status quo of doing nothing is not an option. There's little question his body of work on the field may well warrant 15-20mm/yr. But given all of the other character issues associated with him, do you really feel good handing out this contract to him now? As he puts a gun to your head?

If the above happened, my vote is to trade him. It's not crystal clear, but that's the way I'd play it.

Fair situation and not an easy one. Depends on what I get back for him. If the Rams give me a slap in the face offer there is absolutely a chance I call Peters bluff and take the chance. Will he really sit out two years? Maybe. But if I'm getting back nothing, relatively speaking, I might take the chance and hope I eventually get a better offer.

There is no guarantee down the road better offers don't come and depending on the package I might take that chance or dare Peters to sit out two years.

Then again I also wouldn't have Sutton as DC so I might have an olive branch veach doesn't have.

I'm pretty sure the NFL was pissed that the Chiefs leaked the details of the Smith trade to Terez and warned them not to do the same in this instance.

A loss of draft picks would be devastating and basically negate the trade.

So why was the trade leaked in the first place and not kept quiet until March 14?

Because he yelled at a coach?
So Tom Brady is a basket case.

Because he threw a flag?
Travis Kelce is a basket case.

Because he kneeled for the anthem?
Many NFL players are now a basket case.

I've done much worse things in my life.... guess I'm a basket case.

If this is because he wasn't going to re-sign, then just keep him for another two years and let him walk and get the third round compensatory pick.

Not if he sits and holds out... Plus, the comp pick won't be close to the picks we get in this deal.

That alone, besides the fact that 29 other teams weren't interested in trading for Marcus Peters, should put any notion that the Peters wasn't a headcase to rest.

Football players don't exist in a vacuum. Just because a guy's great on the field don't mean he can't be a headache to manage off the field.

I didn't read them - I'm not disagreeing he's a head case, but if 29 teams weren't interested that doesn't mean the move was necessary now. He's not in the last year of his deal.

From what Terez Paylor keeps saying, Marcus had a lot of support in the locker room. Guys liked him. We aren't talking about some infection that would ruin the locker room.

Do I think he's polarizing, absolutely. Do I think he's an asshole, absolutely. Do I think he needs to mature? Absolutely. But his bill wasn't coming due tomorrow and if the compensation is what I expect, way too low, then you wait.

Exactly. The damage is done.

My guess is that the Rams leaked the trade, not the Chiefs.

I would imagine that they received a stern warning from the League Office when details were leaked to Terez.

Let's put it this way: The Chiefs definitely leaked to Terez. The Redskins didn't leak to Kent Babb.

Sorry, I’m not going to rehash all of this again. If you refuse to believe he’s a disaster of a person, then nothing I can tell you will change your mind.

ILChief 02-24-2018 12:26 PM

Maybe the Rams will leak it

The guy quit on the field, got into a confrontation with his mother, whom he pushed three times and called a ****, then had to be separated by security.

He went to the shower and had to be physically pulled out of the shower, covered in soap, forced to put his uni on and return to the field, sockless.

He was suspended a few days later.

Well said.

This is where I am completely. My issue isn't that the chiefs could have gotten more right now. I'm sure they got all they could for trading him right now. I also don't like Peters the person, at all.

1) a package of picks for Peters
2) Peters and a pick for Donald
3) Joyner and a pick for Peters.

i dont think a Joyner scenario is possible at all cause hes an upcoming FA. Donald sounds like Chiefs fans just trying to grab the last hopeful branch before a dose of reality.
