Why should Georgia still be in the playoff? They'll have the same amount of losses as Texas without a conference title.

If Florida State wins, they'll also have a conference title.

There's no point having these title games if there's no consequences to losing.

This QB for Alabama has had an amazing improvement from where he was at the start of the season.

CaliforniaChief 12-02-2023 05:00 PM

It's going to be awesome with 12 teams next year. The 13th team out can bitch all they want.

That said, if this result stays as is, I'd go:
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Texas
4. Alabama

If Georgia wins:
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. Washington
4. Texas

No matter what Florida State does, I'd leave them out. I don't think they're one of the four best teams in the country.

It won't be awesome. There will be too many blowouts. College doesn't have the NFL's parity. Remember last year's title game? Four teams is about right.

You could easily argue why should Georgia drop 4 spots for losing to an Alabama team that will presumably be ranked in the top 4. FSU has played nobody on this level all season and they should get rewarded for that?

I don't think FSU could beat Georgia. However, I see this no differently than a weak division winner getting an automatic playoff spot in the NFL or MLB. Those are the rules.

If Georgia doesn't need to win this game, that cheapens it. It's supposed to be a conference title game. Not an exhibition for one of the teams.

Except there are people voting on/selecting these spots so it's not like that at all?

I understand. Just saying how I would vote.

Otherwise, you could pencil Georgia into the playoff before the season began. They're likely one of the nation's top 4 teams. Same with Michigan.

KC_Connection 12-02-2023 05:13 PM

I'll put it this way, if the point of the selection committee is to select the four best teams in the country, how is Georgia not among them regardless of the outcome here?

Is that not the point of the committee?

I disagree. It adds more meaning to games than just bowl appearances where all the top players sit out to protect their draft status.

Fair enough, but I don't watch the Bowl games besides the playoff. Maybe the Rose Bowl, but that's about it.

You could argue they're not if they lose this game. Hard argument considering how dominant they've been the last few seasons, but that's supposed to be irrelevant. We're evaluating this year only.

He thinks the top 4 teams are in the SEC based on recruiting rankings. Games don't matter. Doesn't matter that the SEC was the worst conference vs other non conference power 5 games this year.

* Edit, big 10 was one game worse.

Why do they play these games? They're antiquated since the playoffs started.

Because of money.
