That wouldn't have happened yet in the show if they go that route.

Spoiler!

Some more observations on differences from where I've read up (through comic 2)

Spoiler!

On IMDB they had Merle listed as part of the cast from that last episode. I wonder if they did a flashback scene and cut it.

Not so much this season, but the 2nd season for sure.

Hell, in the 2nd season 80% of the episodes would have been yellow from start to finish.

Looks like in the teaser for this coming week, that we're going to find him alive and well. Minus a hand and pissed off, obviously.

season 2 did seem like it was going downhill at first. But then when it all comes together at the end, brilliant!

I've read the comics up to the point we are in the show, and there is no contact (or even revisit) with them to this point. I have not read further, to tell if they do re-appear.

In the comic, there was no "walkie talkie communications plan" like they had in the Show, either. Rick basically took them to his Sheriff's office, gives them some guns and a police cruiser. He takes his and they go their separate ways.

If I remember correctly, there was a walkie talkie plan, and Rick does try to contact him every now and then.

Deberg,

I could tell you, but it would spoiler it for you if they follow the comics.
