I don't get the money thing. I think Bowlen would have still paid Shanahan rather than see him go to the Chiefs. I think the Chiefs are going to back load the hell out of the contract if they can get away that, so Shanahan effectively gets two paychecks and doesn't work for "free".

Shanahan is ours.

Pioli didn't wait all this time to can Herm Edwards for no reason. He waited all this time because he wasn't sure he could get Shanahan. Now that Herm has been fired, and news is leaking all over the place that we're "targeting" Shanahan (which I've been aware of for weeks now), it's pretty clear:

Mike Shanahan, Head Coach, Kansas City Chiefs

Soren Petro is on ESPN News now

Bowlen has to pay Shanny regardless unless he signs a new contract worth the value of his old one. It's just funny that Clark would be like "OK, here's basically the minimum we could pay him and still get it approved" so that Bowlen is still on the hook for a lot.

If Shanahan signed such a contract, it's even funnier.

Schefter usually wins the credibility war against Mort.

OnTheWarpath15 01-23-2009 06:05 PM

Schefter just about had an aneurysm on NFLN.

He says no way in hell, then follows it up by saying that you can't trust anything coming out of KC.

FloridaMan88 01-23-2009 06:06 PM

Now Brian Waters on ESPN News

His heart could force blood up a giraffe's neck right now...

I'm torn between wanting to see Taco John have a conniption, and wanting to see the complete failure of WPI.

Unless I am mistaken, Bowlen is only on the hook for the difference. I think Clark will make that difference as big as possible, then when his contract expires from Denver, he'll jack it up. Else why would the Rat work? (Yes, I know that technically Shahanan is supposed to look, but I doubt Bowlen would take him to court.)

FloridaMan88 01-23-2009 06:08 PM

Brian Waters: Herm wasn't a good fit for the Chiefs from the start.

DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

You really are laying it out there, aren't you?

How awesome would it be to have Shanny as the head coach, with his paycheck still coming from Denver..... :D
