She took advice from Michael Jordan.

Now if the service is bad and they piss me off I will not leave a tip.

This and if you ever find the Unicorn that is good service at bw3's then report back to us.

 I've never had a problem there aside from the fact that the servers never have any clue what the beer selection is.

If you don't have the funds, don't go out.

It's pretty simple... I really don't understand the contingent of people who think it's ok to spend the only 50 bucks (or in this case 140) they have on a meal without the ability to compensate someone who does nothing but take their shit.

I only say this because I know I am a handful when I take the family out and I know I make the server's job difficult at times because I'm incredibly picky, but I do so with the intention of rewarding them at the end of the meal. I almost always give 25-30% unless they really haven't got a clue and don't seem to care about it..

Just my 2 cents

easy to say when you aren't the one working for free.

If you are good at serving, getting stiffed happens once in a blue moon (hence the need for this whiny server to make a dramatic internet post about it).

If you suck at serving, maybe it will provide a nice incentive to work hard and find a job you are better suited for.

Although something about this story has me really skeptical. Maybe it's because its from reddit. But there's no itemized receipt. Could there have been a gratuity included in the $138 bill? It's possible. If that's the case then I don't think you really need to tip on top of it. Did the server do a bad job? Did the person leave a cash tip in lieu of a tip on the credit slip, I do that so that the server doesn't have to claim the tip and pay taxes on it.

The tip would be printed on the slip if it were an auto grat. And the message would simply say "cash" or "table" or nothing if cash were left.

I once had a gal break down into tears while telling me she is a single mother and hadn't planned on spending $40 for her and her kids to eat after I told her that the coupon she was trying to use did not work with the daily special she had ordered. I shit you not, the woman straight up starts bawling at the table and tells me to just go away.

It is very easy for me to take this picture at face value. People these days have no shame.

Fake, handwriting isn't the same.

That said, don't go out to eat if you can't afford it. Tipping is part of the deal, but some people are jerks about it.

Don't become a server if you can't afford to do so as well. Here's a tip for all servers. This kind of crap is always going to happen. You either get stiffed or get less than what you think you earned. Deal with it like the rest of us that think we are underpaid at our jobs and move on.

Some people don't have the mental make-up to be a server; i.e. serving people.

don't support restaurants that pay people $2 per hour. Don't take it out on someone who is trying to make an honest living even if you feel that person is beneath you. That's my opinion.

What the restaurant pays their people is not something I have any way of knowing. Nor would I care. That's none of my business.

How is this thread so long? Tipping 20% on good service is plain human decency.

If you can't afford to tip 20% on food then you can't afford to dine out. Period.

This thread gets like this every time someone creates it. And the same thing is said each time.

If you can afford to pay the bill you can afford to eat there provided you have no qualms about not tipping. Tipping is not a legal requirement, it's a social contract into which some choose not to enter.

I you go to eat somewhere and the food is inexpensive, say, less than $17 and entree, then don't forgo the tip because the food sucks. That's not the servers fault, its yours. Buffalo WW, Applebees, places like that, are average at best, so don't be pissed when you get an average meal. I hate when people tell me they went to a place like that and were bummed that the food sucked. What the hell do you think it's gonna be?

How else does the consumer send the message?
