Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail. We shall go on to the end. We shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!

Hello. A quick update.

My Dad just had a follow-up MRI to ascertain the result of the second surgery and aggressive chemo. As far as they can tell, both tumors have shrunk significantly. The doctors are "suggesting" that he begin a lower dosage, oral chemo plan for a few days a month over the next five months, along with "Navy SEAL-like" PT. My Dad is more pissed about that his quality of life has diminished (can't walk, bathe, go to the bathroom by himself) than ****ing dying, so they are going to try to walk the line between the two, apparently. They did find a suspect area on the MRI, but can't tell if it's a new lesion or just a shadow on the scan. We're obviously hoping for the latter. It isn't logical that a new lesion would grow considering all the shit that they've been pumping into to him to kill, and successfully so, the existing tumors. So we've got our fingers crossed.

Thanks in advance for your continued good thoughts and prayers. I do appreciate it.

Donger.

Great news, Donger. Prayers for your father's continued improvement.

Heh, that is funny.

He's doing okay. Since he handled chemo so well, the oncologist decided to triple the potency of the dosage (or whatever) he's now on every other week. It really ****s him up for a few days, but then he's better. Still having PT every other day and has somehow managed to regain moderate control of his legs. No seizures since the second surgery. And it was the last surgery, I guess. He said he won't do another one if they say he needs one, which I can understand...

Thanks for asking.

Can I bring Daddy Donger some anti seizure weed?

Thanks sweetheart, but the middle brother has already made that suggestion ad infinitum and has been, and will continue to be, summarily rejected. "I didn't make it through the ****ing hippy 60s without trying that shit just to take it now!" I even suggested we try it together as a laugh, but he has a rather established personality.

I adore everything about that story.

Oral chemo? What is it? I'm on Temodar/Temozolomide.

BigMeatballDave 12-08-2014 08:35 PM

Good to hear he's doing better.

Yes, I think Temodar.

Buehler445 12-08-2014 08:40 PM

Glad to hear there is improvement.

All the best to you and your dad, bud.

Lonewolf Ed 12-08-2014 08:41 PM

I hope he keeps on getting better and will be past the hassles soon!

How is he handling it? I only had mild nausea the first round.

This round, I was up dry heaving for over an hour. I have an anti-nausea, but it did not work for that 1st dose.

He says that the oral chemo doesn't bother him at all. The IV chemo gave him mild nausea, but nothing beyond that. The doctors are a bit mystified at his ability to withstand discomfort, which I find amusing considering this is a man who could keep up with me on a 8% climb just a few years ago. He literally thrives on this kind of stuff. It's the lack of control over his body that is giving him fits now. He can't stand it. Pain and discomfort are one thing (well, two things) but not being able to control his body, pain or no, is another.

Hello. Unfortunately, my father began having seizures again last week. He had an MRI on Friday and it shows a new tumor deep within his brain. It is inoperable. The doctors are working on a treatment plan. One of the options is some new clinical trial. Anyway, I thought now would be a good time to update. If you would, please send good thoughts to my dad. Thanks.
