I'd tank early season hoops games to get better talent more playing time for sure. Sure you want to win but If you know you're going to the NCAA anyway you have to get the right mix ready. No more Lucas, no Svi, etc etx

Of course Self always shortens his rotation to 8 or so for conf play and only 8 played last night

Strategic tanking.

Don't be stupid in your generalized statements...

KU fans are the worst.

Worked perfectly.

So, it's not so much a motivator, Self just needs the loss to justify his actions to the media or fans or himself...

Maybe that lit a fire under him and we get what we saw last night. Who knows... I wouldn't put it past Self to troll Iowa State into thinking they have a chance to win this league and then just shit all over them when the time is right.

It's happened before.

KU could have played a great game and still lost in Ames. There's a reason ISU has the record they do there. Cliff likely wouldn't have made any difference at all (especially the version that was out on the court that night without a "motor").

Alexander says Self tells him every day in practice that he needs to play with a motor. He shows him video of former KU big man Thomas Robinson.

Robinson ran the floor hard and tried to dunk everything. He hated rims.

That's what Self wants out of Alexander, and he knows this team isn't reaching its ceiling unless he gets through to his freshman big fella.

"Let's be honest. Hey, Perry (Ellis) and Jamari (Traylor) are great, but they don't give us a physical presence like Cliff potentially does," Self said. "We need that. It changes our team.

Good Lord. No, he hasn't lost games to set an example.

This. He may make decisions based on motivating players down the road rather than exploiting matchups in any particular game, but he doesn't roll into the gym saying, "yep. I'm bombing this one."

Hell he hasn't even lost that many games.

Playing Lucas 19min vs a speed & three team sure felt a lot like "tanking" to me

Agreed. Cliff must have really done something bad to get himself into Self's doghouse.

That's good stuff. Love these quotes by Oubre, as well.

"Coach Self is definitely one of the best coaches in America," Oubre said. "He knows what he's doing and he's going to teach us a lesson someway, somehow, and he's been doing that. He's been molding us to be the best players we can be.
"It's not going to be given to us, and he's teaching us that lesson. He's making us come out and play harder and learning how to really play hard. Just be the best players that we can be. However he does that, I respect, because I respect the process."
