and also players will look at this deal and think they wanna come to KC now, instead of 'cheaps'

its win/win not just for J H but to attract other players in future

I'm not sure how much that's gonna play into things.

This team has a lot of young talent they will need to pay in the next 3-5 years. I love Dorsey getting the deal done with Houston today, but it also means we probably won't be big FA players the next couple years. That money will be earmarked for our own FAs.

A value signing here and there not withstanding...

“To me it was very important,” Houston said. “I like coach Reid a lot. He’s a great coach. He motivates me and pushes me to be a better player. Any time you play for a coach like that, you love it.”

Very interesting

When they say its not about the money............it's all about the money.

If you're doing things correctly, shouldn't have to dip into FA for big fish anyway.

Keep talent you've drafted and developed. You don't have to worry about scheme fit, personality conflicts etc. You already know you're own will fit

Thats the nature of the beast in the salary cap era. You spend $55 million guaranteed, it had better be for a difference maker because you just took away a lot of cap room.

Had to be done though. We have 2 year window. Jamal starts to slow due to age in 2017. And other reasons I'm not going to list in a Houston signing thread.

So what the hell are they gonna do with the rest of the money?

I wouldn't be opposed to rolling it over

This.

The Packers literally did not sign a single FA from another team, and I would call them Super Bowl favorites right now.

The Chiefs have great young talent due to get paid in the next two seasons (Poe, Kelce, Berry, etc.) and that doesn't even account for guys like DJ/Hali/Sean Smith that they may try to bring back. That's where the money needs to go.

Are they still wanting to trade him?

That'd be cool.

That would definitely make it easier to do something with dj next year.

Do want.

If poe and kelce continue to go the way they are this year, I'd for sure approach them about extending contracts
