How does a Bronco fan end up not knowing dick about quarterbacks? I find that both funny and ironic.

Geno has one of the best deep ball passes I've seen this year and can make all the throws. He's cerebral, a leader, and uber competitive. Remind you of anyone? Like a former quarterback turned vice president of your team kind of anyone?

We asked for one simple question. How are the games between Leftwich and Geno similar?

You gave us:

"They have strong arms"

and stuff about black QBs and West Virginia.

Uhhh... and WE'RE the ones who won't see reason?

Hootie 12-15-2012 08:59 PM

Bowser...you're comparing white QB's to black QB's again. Everyone knows that's against the rules.

If it's against the rules to compare black QBs to white QBs, and you must draw a comparison to a black QB, Warren Moon is a far better comparison than Byron Leftwich.

But the guy he most reminds me of is still Aaron Rodgers.

Just for clarity's sake, you're saying Geno reminds you of Rodgers?

And I'd take the next Warren Moon, if we absolutely have to.

Milkman with the slam dunk, imo.
I saw a Warren Moon special and Geno was the first QB that came to mind when I watched that old film. But Aaron Rodgers is a good comparison. They have similar arms, pocket presence and escapability in the pocket. Additionally, they both wait for plays to develop downfield. I dislike player comparisons, however.

Whether moving in the pocket to evade a rush, or breaking containment, they both keep their eyes downfield.

It's human nature to make player comparisons.

You guys are the ones who are hung up on race.

How the hell are they similar? Byron Leftwich is completely immobile, Geno Smith isn't a runner but is athletic. Byron Leftwich has an unbelievably long wind-up, Geno has a compact release.

If anything, Byron Leftwich is Kerry Collins but not even close to as good. Geno's a totally different QB. The Aaron Rodgers comparison is a good one.

That's a tough comparison. Big Ben has really unique ability to extend plays by taking a whole shit load of hits but being impossible to take down. He's a guy who isn't hard to get to but even if you get to him, he's impossible to tackle. I think Geno and Big Ben are athletic in really different ways.

I think Geno can extend plays with his feet, he'll need to add some bulk to get the strength to fight off tackles but both can make all the throws and each has a OL thats isn't great but can still make plays.

Dave Lane 12-16-2012 08:10 AM

And I think Rogers reads defenses much better than Geno. But Geno should be able to pick it up once he gets here.

I don't see the comparison to Big Ben at all.

I see the same type of athletic ability to escape pressure in Smith that I see in Rodgers.

Well we agree to disagree then. Other than the hard to tackle part I see a lot between them. As much as with Rodgers but thats just me.

The thing is that Ben's entire game is built around being difficult to tackle. He holds the ball longer than any QB out there, and somehow he's built an elite game around that style. I would love to have Big Ben as my QB, but would never want a new QB to be trained to play like him.

As I've said before, Geno will have to learn to read defenses and make quick reads. And then use athletic ability as a bailout, not as his first option. But unlike Vick, you want that athletic ability to be used to keep your eyes downfield, not to tuck the ball under and run.

Even that being said, one could totally buy that your boy would attempt to pull such a stunt.

Of course, Mallett would have had to sit the bench behind Cassell and Stanzi until he learned the system...

saphojunkie 01-29-2013 11:14 AM

I personally thought he sounded 1,000 X more relaxed and open than he ever did in Kansas City. I don't understand why these asshats think that they can't ever tell the truth to anyone ever until they're shitcanned?

If he had been more forthright with the fans and media here, there MIGHT not have been QUITE AS BAD of backlash. Maybe the banners wouldn't have happened.

But yeah, him never having to answer for Cassel is a sin.

Oh, and he would have traded down and used the extra picks to get Alex Smith. I am 100% convinced.

This is correct. I can only assume Pioli's "people" that go on with Patrick's (or others) people lay down the rules before an interview..... a) No questions about Matt Cassell, b) No questions about SOC or those banners, c) No questions about why Peter King still loves him, even though he's proven nothing away from the safe confines of Foxboro that shows he's worth a shit, d) No questions about Tyson Jackson
