49ers played approx 2 games past Thanksgiving with any relevance over the period of 03-10.

Sure there was some hate and ignorance. But poking fun at the situation worked too. They are insignificant to actual life games.

KC had 3 playoff teams + a 10 win season over that time.

Woe is me or whatever, but do some of you guys really have to be so spiteful about it. Jesus Christ.

No. If you're a Chiefs fan, your team loses. And then loses some more.

Steve Bono loses. Grbac loses. Gannon loses. Trent Green loses. Damon Huard loses. Brodie Croyle loses. Tyler Thigpen loses. Matt Cassel loses. Tyler Palko loses. Brady Quinn loses. And then you get Alex Smith.

Wonder what's next?

The 49ers were in this place and used it on Alex Smith over Aaron Rodgers.

I liked Rodgers and did amateur scouting with a notepad plus the hours upon hours online and spent money on access to a scout site online.

Didn't work out great for the 49ers did it? GB with Rodgers was capping off 2010 with a Championship as the 49ers sucked for the 7th year in a row.

The pity party here is childish.

Sandy Vagina 08-20-2013 08:36 PM

Well, it's decided then... Alex Smiff iz teh suxxorz...

- a deliberate throwaway when Baldwin gets smothered out of bounds.
- a tough pass when the starting TE is smothered by a backup LB.
- a surrendered sack when Lord only knows what was downfield to throw to.
- a deliberate throwaway as a LB closes in tight.

It is official after the 2nd preseason game... Chiefs iz screwed. You can come cheer for the 49ers after you go 0-5, mmmkay?

If I'm not mistaken, Alex was among the highest rated QBs when blitzed. It was when he had pressure without a blitz that he seemed to do poorly.

Alex Smith needs to learn2snapcount better. Because if he had then that corner blitz would have been exposed and audibled out of or picked up.

While this is true (from this angle), we can also determine that A) Protection was adequate and B) Smith displayed poor footwork and pocket presence on a PC that likely included a built-in hot.

Chiefs Pantalones 08-21-2013 06:07 AM

Looked like he read the D and wanted his receiver far right, and locked into him all the way. He fully committed to what I imagine must have been a 1-on-1 between CB and WR... possibly a deep out? If he saw the CB jump in front of the WR? Yeah, I'd rather he not throw that. (not at all saying it was a good-looking QB play there)

I'm going to have to find out when that play occurred, and then take a look and see if I can learn more from the DVR recording.

edit: nope.. no replay angle or down the field look. You can see the SS blitz in off the snap. The WR over there looked to be running a 10 yard in or hitch. You can see that the CB wasn't back-pedaling at all, so a hitch would have been disaster.. maybe the in also.

... but I guess the point is, yes.. that has been Alex's SOP at times in games where shit doesn't much matter. If he can live another play instead of forcing a risk pass? He generally will. Fans can hate it and be frustrated by it.. but they might find themselves more frustrated with the result of an INT.

Frosty 08-21-2013 06:48 AM

From what I've seen in the preseason so far (admittedly small sample size), Smith tends to lock in on the right side of the field.

Sure.

But the "Freezing" we see in that clip - that we saw so often from Cassel and etc. - is a terrifying thing if it becomes a trend.

Falling down. Not trying to get open at all. Leaving Smith out to dry.

Our pasta this evening...

is squid ravioli in a lemon grass broth...

with goat cheese profiteroles, and I also have an arugula Caesar salad.

For entrees this evening, I have swordfish meatloaf with onion marmalade,

rare roasted partridge breast in raspberry coulis with a sorrel timbale.

...and grilled free-range rabbit with herbed french fries.
