Now, I agree it probably takes more than just the 1st, probably a 3rd or 4th in there too, to get up to the range to take Darrisaw (probably 13-14). Slater will probably go even higher. I absolutely love Darrisaw and I think there's a clear, significant dropoff in talent after Darrisaw at the position (i.e. Sewell, Slater, Darrisaw). That said, I agree there could be a talented OT that falls to 31. There's a good chance Cosmi is there and I'd roll the dice on that kid for sure. |

In fact, I think a lot of the board thinks it was a BAD move. All the more reason not to repeat the process out of panic. |

That's a surefire way to end up 7-9 for the next few seasons. |

It's no different than the Chiefs shelling out $40+ million for Sammy Watkins, who barely made a dent this season but without him, the Chiefs wouldn't have won the 2019 Super Bowl nor would they have gone to OT in the 2018 AFC Championship Game. Some "Win Now" moves are worth it, regardless of the aftermath. |

It takes a team to win in the NFL, not just one guy. |
And I'd MUCH rather give up the haul it takes to move up rather than staying put for some of the names they've thrown at us in these mocks. Dickerson? Another broke dick scrub is the absolute last thing that this OL needs.

Even with draftees and free agent signings, there are no guarantees that the line will improve over last year, especially considering they'll need to create $20 million in cap space just to meet the like $181 million limit, then create at least another $5-$7 million for draftees AND sign effective free agents along both lines. It's a tall order. I'm not saying that it can't be done but it's pretty clear that some people are being overly optimistic about the ability of the front office to fill all of their needs while fitting draftees and effective free agent signings while retaining important players currently on the roster under the salary cap. |
So I just want to get this straight. And no I’m not arguing against it.
We’re against starting Niang at LT because he lacks experience but we’re okay with starting Slater who has no experience. |
Quote:
All of those guys are possible day 1 starters at LT. And after that, you have a bevy of guys that could start at RT or move to LT in a pinch, like Eichenberg. |

What Veach does in free agency will determine the draft order. I still believe we need two OL with the first 3 picks. Would be fine with a LB in the first but the next two picks after that need to be OL. You can get servicable receivers in the 4th round. A guy like Philyor could be available. If somehow we can land Allen Robinson in a 1-year deal at around $5 millon loaded with incentives, that would be incredible. I don't see Miller sign with us. He will cost too much. Watt is in the same boat. He ain't signing a minimum vet deal with us when he can get 5x that with Cleveland or Buffalo.

Will the NFL return to their "normal" routine, including in-house training, OTA's, Rookie Minicamps and full Minicamps? Or will everything go virtual again, like last year? If they can resume the normal offseason, I'll feel way more comfortable with Niang, along with any and all draftees, heading into the season as starters but without, yeesh. It could be really, really ugly for at least half the season. |

Let me ask a question to the group..
If Niang never got injured wouldn’t he be a likely top 10 pick in this upcoming draft? Top 15, maybe? |

You don't draft guys just to draft guys at a position. They need to have every attribute for the scheme, whether they're raw or nearly a finished product. Throwing picks at a position is a complete waste of cheap but extremely valuable resources. |

Forcing two picks into the o-line and taking a LB in the first? This isn't 1995. |

If the Chiefs hadn't drafted him at the bottom of the 3rd round, the man would have been drafted by another team in the 4th or 5th round. No one is questioning whether or not he could return from the hip injury because it wasn't career threatening. The issue wasn't with his injury, the issue was with availability. |
In free agency I expect next to nothing. Keep as many as we can but the COVID Cap leaves us little wiggle room. This offseason is virtually all about the draft.

Again, it all hinges on Fisher. If they're intent on bringing him back, putting Niang at LT temporarily plugs a hole. They could use Remmers at RT and then move Niang to RT when Fisher comes back. Hopefully, we know something about Fisher soon. The entirety of this argument revolves around not knowing what his status is. And Schwartz to a certain extent as well. |

But I don't think the Chiefs will. He was their very first pick when Andy Reid got here. He's been a rock solid starter ever since. I think they're going to do everything they can to bring him back. |
Quote:
They may not be the exact ones any of us really want but they're going to do something. ;) |
I feel like you guys are missing the biggest hurdle in your battle over LT on this team's OL.
Andy Reid has never started an LT without at least one year of NFL playing experience. |

The new league year starts on March 17th. I’m sure objective number 1 is to get Niang and LDT in the building, have them do another full medical check and then a fitness test. So they should know going into the draft what they have. As far as the draft, this might be the deepest OT class I have ever seen, and that says an awful lot compared to an excellent class we saw last year. There very well might be a worthy talent that falls to us in the draft from this scenario. And it’s not like this has never happened before. Chris Jones is a prime example of an amazing positional class that caused him to fall. |
Quote:
If he’s healthy, it’s a planned thing to extend Fisher this offseason to lower that cap hit with a deal that lets him finish his career in KC. It probably saves KC 8-10m (depending on structure) and solidifies the position through Mahomes prime. Like I said a week or so ago, I expect Veach to sign Fisher to an extension with a trap door after the second year Incase he isn’t able to get back to his level of performance after rehab. I’m also pretty confident we will hear about an injury settlement for Schwartz in the next month or 2...hopefully I’m wrong. |
Some people are gonna freak out if and when the only OL help they take is at IOL/C in the 2cd round and then a project OL on day 3 of the draft.
|
I would take a look at Everson Griffen if we are looking at signing a veteran DE to a cheap deal.
|
Quote:
I don't think he's a fit for this team, whatsoever. |
Romeo Okwara. I know he’s going to get paid but just structure his deal so that the biggest cap hit is there after Clark is gone......so after the 2021 season.

As for due diligence, looking into the stuff you mentioned is beyond my capacity as a fan but Veach would have the resources to check in on that kind of situation. |

Chase a ring? Cash in on another short term deal? The Fisher situation complicates things, but what a bombastic move by Veach if he could get Williams in for one or two years... |
