Clemence is playing...well? *ducks*

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:07 PM

We are just settling for every mid range contested jumper early in the clock

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:08 PM

I love how this Ashworth bum has done all he can to let KU back into the game.

It’s true.

He provided a spark. Really good minutes for him.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:09 PM

Would love to generate more live ball turnovers to make use of Storr's transition skills this year, but I doubt we will

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:11 PM

Harris is 5-17.

Rest of the team is 16-34.

47% from the field isn’t great, but Harris’s 29% is why we’re down.

THIS!

DJay23 12-04-2024 09:13 PM

Finally a friendly whistle on a loose ball play.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:14 PM

Dickinson needs more than 4 shots the rest of this game

DJay23 12-04-2024 09:14 PM

Ashbag was about to flop from the contact of the loose ball after that bucket.

Buehler445 12-04-2024 09:15 PM

Energy is gone. This one is probably over

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:15 PM

Another miss for Harris.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 12-04-2024 09:15 PM

Yuck.

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:15 PM

Harris and Adams have been terrible.

SithCeNtZ 12-04-2024 09:16 PM

I wonder if Magic Johnson ever went 5-18 in a game.

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:16 PM

I'd rather watch Mayo chuck up 3's all game rather than watch DaJuan try another tough layup.

It's on the coach too, we're continually running plays to get them drives at the rim at a shot blocker.

George Liquor 12-04-2024 09:17 PM

I love watching Dejaun Harris miss shots season after season

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:17 PM

Great game, KJ.

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:17 PM

Just bench KJ. So ****ing bad.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:18 PM

There are ways to better deal with a big like Kalkbrenner in the paint and we haven't done them.

Fansy the Famous Bard 12-04-2024 09:19 PM

Jesus this is the most punchable team I can remember outside of every Duke team ever.

PHOG 12-04-2024 09:20 PM

Adams 2-6. 3 rebounds, 4 points. No wonder Self has him starting. :doh!:

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:21 PM

We could be getting open 3s every possession with Dickinson by just setting a simple screen at the 3PT line. There's not a chance in hell Kalkbrenner is leaving the paint on that.

I can only presume Self prefers Harris and KJ driving at the rim throwing garbage up at one of the better shot blockers in the country given how we've played this game.

Fansy the Famous Bard 12-04-2024 09:21 PM

Isaacs and ashworth should play for Dan Hurley creating the most delightful trio of ****wit, flopping, whinebags in NCAA basketball.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:22 PM

3 shots for Dickinson is absolutely absurd in this game

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:25 PM

Can KJ Adams graduate and leave the program early?

cmh6476 12-04-2024 09:25 PM

I don't understand what we're doing with these lineups

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:25 PM

Clemence has put clown shoes on KJ Adams. Actually fighting for rebounds and playing under control.

Great defense there just to have KJ jump off the top rope and **** it up.

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:25 PM

Cmon. 1 more foul on KJ and that bum can sit.

PHOG 12-04-2024 09:26 PM

Adams has as many fouls as he does points. and 1 more than he has rebounds.

DJay23 12-04-2024 09:26 PM

Alright, it's bed time on the East Coast and this mess isn't worth being tired in the morning.

cmh6476 12-04-2024 09:26 PM

Poor shot selection. Giving up easy looks. Not playing KU ball tonight.

GabyKeepsMeWarm 12-04-2024 09:27 PM

Woof. This is horrible.

ROYC75 12-04-2024 09:28 PM

We can't do anything right.

Fansy the Famous Bard 12-04-2024 09:28 PM

Lots of good looks in the second half. This team is just flat and missing shots.

cmh6476 12-04-2024 09:28 PM

Pop Isaacs must be a lottery pick

Mostly Adams and Harris.

McDermott had the right idea. Dare them to beat you.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:29 PM

Just a total no show from the players (and Self who had no game plan about how to deal with Kalkbrenner). Outside of those 3 minutes to start the 2nd half, Creighton outworked them the entire game.

Not sure Creighton is a tournament team (although this win will help them at the end get selected), but we are certainly not the #1 team in the country. Much to work on.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:31 PM

Storr was the only guy who I thought even played half decent and his shooting numbers were bad too.

No idea how Dickinson gets only 4 shots in a game like this either.

I'd expect UConn to leapfrog KU in next week's rankings.

LMAO

ROYC75 12-04-2024 09:31 PM

Possible?

Ha, ha ha

PHOG 12-04-2024 09:32 PM

Eh, it looks like a total team let down. 22-62 FG for 35% but yeah, Adams and Harris lead the way with a combined 7-24 FGs.

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:32 PM

Harris still throwing up junk at the rim.

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:34 PM

I think for the next game we really to emphasize:

1. We need more out of control contested floaters by Adams and Harris
2. Fewer touches for Dickinson
3. More fadeaway mid range jumpers in the first 8 seconds of the shot clock

I’m sure doing those will help.

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:34 PM

Darryn Peterson can't get here soon enough.

cmh6476 12-04-2024 09:34 PM

Going to be a long ass 3 hr bus ride back to Lawrence

Better not lose to Mizzou otherwise that might happen (and Mizzou might be better than Creighton)

ROYC75 12-04-2024 09:34 PM

HCBS is not concerned!

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:35 PM

DaJuan Harris looked a lot like Tristan Jass tonight.

ROYC75 12-04-2024 09:36 PM

Does this mean we will win the tournament?

cmh6476 12-04-2024 09:37 PM

Those douches would rather jump around on the court than shake their opponents hand

Ceej 12-04-2024 09:37 PM

I can't wait to watch coach force feed KJ next week to get him going and get him off the shnide.

I feel like Dickinson touched the ball like 3 times the entire 2nd half. No clue what Self was doing here tonight.

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:38 PM

WBF. Super talented roster still.

But good Lord. Adams just makes everything so much more difficult for this team.

Playing 4 guards around Dickinson/Bidunga sure would make things easier.

PHOG 12-04-2024 09:39 PM

I'm sure Adams will play all 40 minutes vs Missouri

smithandrew051 12-04-2024 09:39 PM

And you could see the immediate change with even Clemence in there.

For all his faults, Clemence is normally pretty active on the boards and shows quick hands defensively at times.

KJ Adams is like this team’s Daniel Sorensen.

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:39 PM

Auburn going down tonight too but Duke is a worthy opponent at least

KC_Connection 12-04-2024 09:41 PM

Did we even put Kalkbrenner in any screen actions defensively? Just crazy.

McDermott was having his team play defensively off Adams and Harris all game and we played exactly into his strategy by letting them throw all those mid-range/runner shots up.

Self had no plan to counter that strategy all game and got outcoached considerably in that one. One of the things he could have done was bench KJ (who they weren't guarding at all) but he will never do it.

PHOG 12-04-2024 09:46 PM

Jamiya Neal had 4 fouls......the rest of the team had 3.

Worse because you can't hide him at all.

Every good coach we play the rest of the season is going to play off him like that defensively.

If they just play off of Harris, he’s still a good enough shooter from 3 to make them pay a bit.

Both together just kills the spacing offensively.

KJ being such a shitty rebounder negates much of the benefit of having another big on the floor.

Bill Self has forgotten more about basketball than I’ll ever know, but I’ll never understand his opinion of KJ.

I get riding with him when he’s effective like he was against Duke. But it was clear pretty early that this wasn’t a “KJ” game.

Not having Griffen probably made it more difficult to bench KJ tonight too. I'd have just gone with Flory though. His talent could have made a difference tonight.

Chiefspants 12-04-2024 09:54 PM

Pretty incredible how McDermott’s gameplan around Self always revolves around “find the guy on KU’s squad who can’t make an open shot and let him shoot whenever he wants to.”

Worked tonight, would have worked without the Remy Martin joker card we had in 2022.

If it wasn't clear before now, we were extremely fortunate Kalkbrenner got hurt the game before that or I think the outcome of that tournament would probably have been completely different. That was a very good Creighton team with him in the lineup.

That’s just the universe making things right for taking Simien away in 2003, Embiid in 2014, and Doke in 2017/2019.

I’m confident we lost at least 1 title due to that collection of injuries.

BWillie 12-04-2024 10:14 PM

My high school basketball coach is one of Creighton's assistant coaches now. I wonder if he came up with the genius plan of letting Harris shoot as much as he wants and just not let Hunter touch the ball except up top.

BWillie 12-04-2024 10:15 PM

KJ just struggles vs size. Hunter got punked.

But when POP ISAACS 10-15 and 6-9 from 3 you just probably aren't going to win. That guy is a human bricklayer vs any team but us apparently.

Oh, I'll never apologize for a bit of luck in that crapshoot of a tournament. Such a huge part of any successful run in it.

How did he get punked when we didn't even try to give him the ball the entire game? He got one touch in the post and it was the first possession of the 2nd half (leading to an open three). They ignored him after that and Self didn't even attempt to involve him in plays.

The problem was McDermott basically didn't guard KJ (or Harris) and took that strategy to an extreme in a way we hadn't seen any team do since last year.

The guy I once beat in tennis?

Defense would be elite, but offense would be a disaster in that scenario.

Auburn dropping a road game at Duke, no shame in that.

He seemed to have a weird athletic profile. He was a fast leaper but he wasn't very agile or fast. Most quick leapers are agile & fast even if they don't have a huge max vert.
