You have never heard that?

I was just looking at some of the BP maxes and having seen pics etc... of some of you figured it would be higher.

Not a knock or anything by any means just asking.

I run my ass off and spend more time on that than anything and am 5'11" 185 and can bench 295 -300 most days with a pause and good form.

Granted I cant dead lift 400Lbs. I would rather be able to do that honestly. I fully understand BP isn't the best meause of strength.

I was just asking as I have seen some places only count a max at 2 reps. Maybe is 2 sets.

A max is the most weight you've ever done for 1 rep. The most weight you've ever done for 2 reps is a two rep max. I've never heard anything you are talking about.

I see many dudes who claim high weight on bench. I then see them bench and they don't even touch their chest. I see that a lot. Not to mention dudes claiming huge squat numbers because they don't get shit near a parallel squat. Deadlift is really the only true measure of strength. You either pick it up or you don't.

5'7" 175

Bench 275
Dead 405
Squat 340

I never max out, nor do I train at my maxes. It's just not necessary. All of mine are calculated based on my 5RM or 3RM.

I play a shitload of soccer and just have never been good at bench press. I'd consider it a blessing if you just run all the time and can still bench nearly 3 plates at 5'11", 185. That's damn impressive.

Well, unlike Silock, mine are actual 1RM that I've lifted for a REAL 1 rep.

:D

Oh and bench press is ****ing gay. :harumph:

I know what good form on a bench is. I work out with a guy who is 72 and holds 10 or 12 BP records for his age and weight over the years and some are 20 year old NASA records that still stand.

I didn't mean I "just run" I work out chest at least once a week sometimes 2.

What you guys are posting tells me I need to get to work on dead lift and not concern myself as much with bench. I doubt my squat will ever be that high as much as I run, its a choice. I need to work my glutes more but obviously I dont want huge size since I am still a distance runner at this point.

Wasn't knocking anyone I was just blown away at the dead lift numbers.

I can seated front press 245 for a few reps but I recently tried to put 35lb plates on the ****ing Smith machine to do squats and was in discomfort for days because of a past back injury. im pretty much done even trying squats or deads. Hell I was shrugging 400 with the trap bar (had it sitting on the squat rack just below thigh high) jacked up my back so bad I couldnt put my socks on for 2 weeks.

Leg Strength is always sacrificed when a person does a lot of cardio but just focusing on your strength on deads/squats would still be of benefit to you. Impressed with your bench press with that much cardio as well.

My BP 1RM is 265. I hope to be to 275 by end of summer if I can get my shoulder healed back up.

I am 5'8 and weighed in at 165 the other day.

That's why I sumo deadlift now (way easier on the back), and don't do traditional squats. I do front squats (way less weight, not even to 225 yet), and BSS. I'll never put 3 plates on my back again. It's not worth it.

I went for a great bike ride this evening. 16 miles, 1,500 foot elevation gain. Whew.

I know my bench is insanely low compared to my other numbers, which is why I have two heavy bench days per week, and just one squat and DL day, to try and 'catch up'. I'm also trying to lean out at the same time, which I know is going to bite me in the ass sooner or later. Tall lifters always have a hard time with squat and bench, and deadlifting comes easy because of leverages.

With a 300lb bench you should be squatting 400 and pulling 500 easy (not singling you out). Like some of the others mentioned, typical 'golds gym' lifter will go in on their 'chest monday' and bang out 315 easy. Then I see them on thursday or friday and they quarter squat 225 or even worse, squat in the smith machine. It all boils down to your specific goals. If they wanna bench 400 and not do legs, that's fine, look like a upside down christmas tree. :D

BSS is basically a one legged squat, isn't it?

ThaVirus 06-02-2014 10:21 PM

Sometimes I look in the mirror and I see a scrawny little dweeb and other times I see a mini beast in training.

That is very frustrating.
