This is why I can't wait for the season to start. One group of people will eat crow, while the other group will rub their faces in it. It's gonna be pretty entertaining.

Now, first, realize that I am trying to have a productive football conversation with you. Not a pissing contest. Do you think that Alex's Paltry receiving numbers are more a reflection on him, or a reflection on need?

Some how, even with Alex Smith averaging less than 200 yards per game, the 49ers still managed to go 20-5-1 in Jim Harbaughs 2 seasons.

He also attempted the least amount of passes in the league. Do you think there could be a correlation between winning, and need that dictated how many times he HAD to throw?

I understand the concern when you look at the numbers. Its not like though that his numbers were bad, like at all. They just weren't plentiful.

When you break it down, and realize what the strength of the 49ers is, even today, its the run game, the 49ers oline is a much better run blocking oline, than a pass line. They have stellar running backs, the receivers are mediocre, but they also have a great defense, and one of the best punters in football.

There isn't much need to put up 250 yards a game passing when you have the number one rushing attack in football.

Well clearly you are unimpressed with Alex Smith. But let me ask you this. Lets say that it was Alex Smith up in Minnesota right now, instead of Cassel.

Do you think that there would be a qb competition going on? That is what is going on right now. Matt Cassel, and Christian Ponder are competing for the job.

Alex Smith would be the clear cut starter right now today. Not even close.

That's all im saying. Alex SMith is not all world. But, its more an illustration of how bad Matt Cassel, at his root, really is.
