Exactly, forget about whether you like Cassel or not. This is about the terrible timing of the information leak.

why risk it, stupid as hell.

Yep. Any leverage we stood to gain by faking interest in Sanchez is now gone.

Freaking Donks are trying to trade Sheffler for a 1st round pick WTF?

Contradicting a report from Mike Lombardi of NFL Network and National Football Post, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel has not signed a six-year contract extension that includes $36 million in guaranteed money, according to Peter King of SI.com.

King reports that two NFL sources say “there’s no truth,” to Lombardi’s report with one source asserting that “no substantive talks,” have taken place between Kansas City team officials and Cassel’s agent.

King had previously reported at the NFL owners meeting that Cassel’s representative, David Dunn, was miffed that the Chiefs hadn’t taken action to modify Cassel’s deal.

Cassel is currently assigned a one-year, $14.65 million franchise tender.

Good to know this is done, I was afraid we would havr to pay him 14 this year and franchise him next year for slightly more, 6 year 36 is better than 2 year 29 million.

Maybe we're trading CASSEL. That would be one reason to announce a contract prior to the draft.

They were saying $36M in GUARANTEES. I gotta think that's impossible.

No one told them he's Tony Scheffler when Winslow is going for a 2, that **** ain't going for no 1st.

the leak could have been unintended. Just because it leaked, doesn't mean they wanted it to leak.

or they DID want it to leak as some other kind of smokescreen.

or, it's simply false.

This has been the longest 15 minutes in history. And there's 15 more to go. And then 10 more after that.

Scheffler likely staying.
After the Philadelphia Eagles failed to execute a trade for tight end Tony Gonzalez, they called the Broncos to seek a trade for tight end Tony Scheffler.
But barring the unlikely event the Eagles surrender a first-round pick for Scheffler, the Broncos won't listen.
The Eagles offered only a third-round pick to Kansas City for Gonzalez, the all-time career leader among tight ends in nearly every receiving category. Gonzalez was instead traded to Atlanta for a second-round pick in 2010.
It might be argued Scheffler, at 26, has more trade value than Gonzalez, at 33. Scheffler will make $535,000 this year, while Gonzalez is the league's highest- paid tight end at $7 million. Scheffler led all tight ends with a 16.1-yards-per-catch average last season while Gonzalez averaged 11.0 yards per catch.

I also will say Jamarcus will have to step up his game bigtime this year if we can snag a prime time WR

I meant to write without the same supporting players as the Pats. Just fyi.

The $36M in guarantees is a mistake. There's no way he got that much.
