However i'm really not a fan of Landry Jones.

Yeah, well, we're grooming a 28 year old QB now.

Good to see you back.

At least Weeden is starting and playing QB for his college team though.

This. I don't get all the RG3 hype. Haven't we seen this type of player before and they don't win Super Bowls.

I've never seen them stay on the field, tbh.

Barkley's probably the 2nd QB picked if he comes out, unless some team gets a hard-on for one of the other guys (see Tebow).

You'd think after putting in the time playing meaningless college games (ok, maybe that's exaggerated a bit), he might be ready to cash in.

But I see what you're saying. Definitely more of a chance that he stays in school than Luck.

Oh, we wouldn't want him then.

We prefer TE3's and guys that cover kicks.

At this point we have to much talent on both sides, even with the injuries to get the 1st pick. We are a legit qb and some depth at some spots away from being a contender (assuming the injured come back fine). So that begs the question. If we don't have the 1st pick and we are that sold on Luck, what would you give up to get him? It would be a high price but if you are that close to being where you wanna be is it worth it?

I don't think Barkley went to SC to play in 1 bowl game and play with a bunch of true freshman and leave before they had much experience...it just all points to him going back next year.

Not a lot. He's good but no player is worth the ridiculous price tag that would be put on that pick if it ends up being that the team with it doesn't need him themselves.

If this team doesn't go QB in the 1st it's gonna be an OT that's really the only option, unless they let Carr walk and take Dre Kirkpatrick.

It depends where we land in the pecking order. If Luck really is that "once in a generation" candidate that everyone seems to think he is, then it's gonna be one helluva bidding war, especially if a team like St. Louis lands the #1.

Assuming we're somewhere between 5 and 10, I would give up:

2012 1st, 2nd, and 4th
2013 1st and 3rd.

See I'm on the fence. If he is what everyone thinks I pull the trigger. Giving up 3 1st round picks for him would be worth it as he would be more valuable than anything you are gonna get with those 3 picks anyway.

Mecca 10-03-2011 09:12 PM

With where this team sits I'd be willing to say "name your price". With a franchise QB we aren't that far anyway, nothing that can't be added in FA.

I'd rather see Pioli do his usual thing by trading down and picking Alameda Ta'amu. I'm tired of both sides of our line missing key pieces in the middle.

Since we're peppering Mecca with questions, Mecca what do you think of Mark Sanchez's play? Franchise QB?

CaliforniaChief 10-03-2011 09:13 PM

The Bad Guy brought this up in another thread but the rookie pay scale that basically exists under the new CBA drastically ups the price of the #1. It's not the cap albatross that it was under the old CBA where #1 was making ungodly guaranteed money.
