by not eating there again. the server didn't make the food, create the menu, or purchase the ingredients. Poor service reflects on the server. Poor food reflects on the rest of the restuarant. I go to places like bw3 to watch college ball once in a while. It's a sports bar, so I expect sports bar food. I'm not gonna screw the server because the schlep flipping burgers doesn't know how to make shitty beef taste good.

By informing the manager, filling out a response sheet, or letting the server know. Lashing out against the server makes little to no sense in this scenario.

I like to tip 9 cents...to let them know the service wasn't worth a dime.

If you suck at serving, maybe it will provide a nice incentive to work hard and find a job you are better suited for.

ok, maybe the server is throwing a tantrum, but it doesn't justify this customer running up a $138 tab, then trying to claim she is too hard up for money to leave a tip at all. that gives justification to the melt down, and honestly, if it were me things would have gone further. i might have lost my job over it. i guarantee this server remembers the customer's face, and if she tries to come back to the establishment, she will receive terrible service. in this country, tips are expected for good service, and if the service was great, like the note says, there is no excuse for this.

Minimum tip and not coming back is probably the most sensible response here. I'm not taking my time to call a manager over or fill out some sort of form.

Well, the only concern here is that I'm almost always able to comp a part of my customer's ticket if they bring the issue up with me. I suppose I'm just passionate about this issue because we had a batch of new cooks about a year ago who were producing unsatisfactory dishes a couple times during each of my shifts, but whenever this circumstance arises, I always do whatever within my ability to make sure that the problem is addressed for the customer.

That said, don't go out to eat if you can't afford it. Tipping is part of the deal, but some people are jerks about it.

Never caught it. You're right. The handwriting is different. The server wrote that in.

A lot of other ways. Of course depends on your problem with the place. If it is an attitude customer treatment type issue that is isolated to the server then yes do the no or little tip thing.

However there are often a lot of things that come up that are out of the servers hands.

It'd be like SOC directing their ire at the guys who collect money for parking instead of Pioli.

I don't know what would cause the server to write that in particular. I'm guessing the woman mentioned it as an excuse. : shrug:

The tables are generally trashed, (ketchup on the tables, food on the floors, etc.) and a lot of the kids seem to make a game out of treating the server with complete contempt.

What it comes down to is that the majority of high school customers are there on their parents' bank account and have no concept of what it's like to hold a job.

Rant over, flame away.

THIS and I can't say it enough. There is no group more obnoxious than high schoolers these days.

Sure, often times they don't. Also, most of them are too young to work so they just simply don't know the value of a dollar or about tipping in general. For that, I look at them like I do foreigners. It pisses me off that I get stiffed by them, but in the end, they're just ignorant to the whole process.

.. But if you're a ****ing American, aged 24-45 and you're a shitty tipper, you can die a slow, syphilis-induced death.
