yep, a poster on the stl site said it best

we are where we are, and it comes down to this. Can the defending world champion Cardinals win an "all or nothing" game 5 on the road against the best team in baseball (at least recordwise) and arguably their best pitcher? If so, then we'll play in San Francisco on Sunday. If the Nationals can beat Wainwright in this type of situation, then they are the "better team" and deserve to move on to the NLCS.

Well said.

I agree that it feels good to have him on the mound, but I would feel a whole lot better if we could find a way to put up some crooked numbers against Gio. We can't afford to let him get comfortable. Offensively, he is not a good match up for us.

Pasta Little Brioni 10-12-2012 08:20 AM

If they don't, oh well. They just ****ing won it all last year.

Meh. Just a realist. They've won enough lately to hold me over for a while. I'm a bigger football fan anyway, so the Chiefs sucking ass always takes luster off a playoff run.

Mi_chief_fan 10-12-2012 02:45 PM

Still wish MM had went with Motte over Lynn. BTW-who starts Game 1 on Sunday? Carp?

Frazod 10-12-2012 03:12 PM

I'm in St. Louis for the weekend. Will get to watch the game with a partisan crowd tonight, which is a rare thing for me. Hopefully we'll win tonight and move onward and upward.

Time for the Cards to get that bullpen working?

1st batter double.
2nd batter triple.
3rd batter homerun.

curve was on the outside of the plate. Those fastballs are usually fly balls outs.

But regardless, MM had better have a quick trigger if he gets in trouble again.

Swanman 10-12-2012 07:42 PM

They either score 12 runs or they look like tonight and can't hit for shit. Even with the two blowup games, most of the team is batting in the low .200s or lower in the series. Only Freese and Craig are hitting for a high average. You just can't win like that.

This has been a frustrating season in many ways, and this series has been a microcosm of that. They win two blowouts, lose two close games (completely blowing one of them) and then get blown out, unless a miracle happens.

kcpasco 10-12-2012 07:45 PM

If you keep going to elimination games it's bound to happen sometime.

At least it's not to a douchebag team like the Reds or Brewers.

We are going to lose because of the same BS that we did all year. Spotty and inconsistent offense causing us to lose games when our pitching is great.

yeah, we don't have any history with the Nationals. Losing to the Brewers last year would have sucked so bad. Instead we got to celebrate on their home turf. They mortgaged their future and we still beat them. Getting to do that and move on to the World Series was pretty cool.

We are so spoiled

Since 2000 there have been 10 different World Series Champs out of the 12 possible series's. Only repeats were the Yankees and us out of 32 teams. Thats 66% of teams that havent got to taste that sweet WS championship champagne.

Since 2000 we have been to the playoffs 9 times out of those 12 years.

Bunch of whiners for complaining about getting beat by a team that hasn't hosted a playoff since the 1933. A city that lost their baseball team. Thats some long suffering fans.

Ya this game is only in the 5th.
The Cards still got some fight in them.

Gio is looking very ordinary. His control still sucks and he is getting behind almost every hitter. There is a ray of hope but the Cards need to get the **** going.

They have to be patient but if he throws one dead red, hit the shit out of it (do you hear me David Freese?).

jd1020 10-12-2012 08:19 PM

INFIELD FLY!

jd1020 10-12-2012 08:23 PM

Pitcher cant throw strikes, bases loaded for the 2nd time in the inning. 1 run scored on wild pitch. And no one up in the bullpen... Washington is playing it smart!

kcpasco 10-12-2012 08:25 PM

Me thinks Craig just missed 1

KC_Connection 10-12-2012 08:26 PM

I'm not sure why Gio is still out there against this string of righties. This is bad managing.

jd1020 10-12-2012 08:27 PM

Yadier bailing him out.

That was horrible managing.

Took him throwing a wild pitch for a run and walking in a run to get someone up in the bullpen in what was a 6-1 game in a win or go home game.

KC_Connection 10-12-2012 08:28 PM

He's lucky Yadi just swung at that...he would have walked another one otherwise.

He just missed the first two pitches a foot outside. You don't swing at that third pitch unless it's cock high and as big as a beach ball. But everyone on the Cardinals thinks they are Babe ****ing Ruth.

What do you think of the Royals letting this Lees Summit pitcher (Rosenthal) throwing 100 mph and striking out hitters get off their draft board? Pretty sure he went in the 21st round.

Thus far, Yadi has been useless at the plate this series. Matheny should have had the hard take on. Yet another managerial blunder.

Yadi has been clutch enough in his career I got no beef with him trying to park one in the bleachers there.

Yadi is 2 for the series so far and Gio hadn't thrown one in the same zip code as the strike zone the whole inning. Take one strike, then unleash the hounds.

Only guy that can do anything is Carp.

I dont know why he fell. He's 2 years older than my son. I had a competitive team in Lees Summit that was ranked in the top 5 in the state and I dont remember that guy.

if you can hit 100 mph even if you are wild, it would seem you would go before the 20th+ round.

KC_Connection 10-12-2012 09:19 PM

Signed for only $65,000. Based on that, it looks like the Cardinals were really the only MLB team that knew about him (or at least the only one that cared enough to commit anything to him).

Swanman 10-12-2012 09:19 PM

The heart of our order has been absolutely terrible. Looking at belt high meatballs and flailing away at pitches they can't hit. Top of the order will come up in the next couple innings so one more chance.

Swanman 10-12-2012 09:26 PM

Of the four runs the Cards scored tonight so far, only one has come on a base hit, and that was on Holliday's seeing-eye double while reerun fumbled around in left field and let Beltran score. The other three runs came on a wild pitch, walk and groundout. It's tough to come back from a 6-run deficit when you don't hit the ball in those situations.

KC_Connection 10-12-2012 09:34 PM

Shit is getting real.

Simply Red 10-12-2012 09:34 PM

money well spent.;) maybe he will be our next Pujols draft pick everyone passed over and we got lucky.

NJChiefsFan 10-12-2012 09:38 PM

I would say I am surprised by this but there is a reason you guys won it last year. Sports are amazing. If the Nationals had broken a 5 to 5 tie the place would be going nuts and it would feel like the game is over. Since they blew a 6 to 0 lead it feels like its destined to be tied.
