Guys!!..i just looked at the roster from regular season game against Cinci and it appears that aswell as not having Toney, Hardman, Thuney and Clyde on the offense that day, we never had Jaylen Watson, Mike Danna or Brandon Williams available on the defense either!!..so that's SEVEN players added back in that never played in a game we lost by three points on the road.

The more I look at the facts on the table the more interesting this game gets. There is no question we have an improved roster and theirs is weaker (due to them losing three linemen) since that regular season game.

ADD BRYAN COOK TO THE LIST OF PLAYERS WHO MISSED THE CINCI GAME YA'LL. SO IT WAS..

Danna, Toney, Hardman, Thuney, Watson, Cook, Williams, Clyde and Cook all out.

Five defenders and four offensive players who weren't available against Cinci on the road and we still could have easily won the game.

It's crazy how different the roster will be tomorrow.

You keep mentioning Clyde but he’s probably not playing and it’s probably addition by subtraction

He's been a key player in our three most impressive wins this season. The facts are the facts even if people aren't impressed with him.

The bottom line is even if you take out Clyde that's still eight players missing.

I don't hate Clyde nearly as much as many here do but I'm not sure McKinnon doesn't make most of those plays anyway. However, it's most likely a moot point because I'm not sure what the Chiefs would have to gain by not activating CHE today when they made other roster moves. At this point, they are gonna roll with Pacheco and McKinnon.

Calcountry 01-28-2023 03:25 PM

I don’t get it on the over. The Chiefs are much more of a ball control team this year that comes up with big plays when they need them I kind of like the under

1. You can’t judge Andy losing two championship games in a row as any basis for that. The fact he made two in a row with McNabb as his QB is impressive. Mahomes is light years better than Donovan.

2. Go to KC and get world class BBQ. Once you do you will understand just how disgusting Skyline Chili looks. Plus it’s so good you might change your team allegiance.

McNabb had a very strong defense backing him, which is not the case with Mahomes. Check out these seasons:

2000 - Eagles were 4th in Scoring Defense
2001 - Eagles were 2nd in Scoring Defense
2002 - Eagles were 2nd in Scoring Defense
2003 - Eagles were 7th in Scoring Defense
2004 - Eagles were 3rd in Scoring Defense

Meanwhile Joe Burrow's defense shut down Josh Allen for 10 points. Bengals are giving up 18 points per game in the Playoffs the last 2 seasons while Mahomes' defense gives up 25 points per game in the Playoffs for his career.

Cincy's playoff defense allowing 18 ppg is similar to the #1 or #2 scoring defenses in the regular season for 2021 and 2022 seasons. In a battle of great QB's, it comes down to the defense on each side. And maybe special teams. Butker missed a field goal in the most recent 3 point loss. Every little thing counts.

Sometimes the numbers don't tell the whole story. The Bengals during their playoff run have played:

A bad Raiders team. The offensively punchless Titans. The Chiefs who scored 24 despite a worthless second half/OT, the Lamar less Ravens, and a Bills team that had multiple dropped passes and Allen refusing to not chuck it deep every other play.

The Chiefs have played (amongst others, not gonna do the whole list):

The Patriots with Brady, the good version of the Bills x2, the Texans when Deshaun Watson was good and dynamic.

I agree with you that whomever's defense plays the best tomorrow will probably win but I think the Bengals defense tends to be overvalued based on just the numbers alone.

2. Tannerhill

4. Stafford
5. Huntley
6. Allen

Only two elite guys on there in reality.

KC gave up 24 points to a similar Titans team. That's 8 points more than Cincy's defense. And in relative terms, it's a pretty large gap of around 40% in points allowed. Burrow only needed to score 17 points to win his game, which is a joke. He scored 19 in that game. Mahomes needed 25 against the Titans, but he torched the Titans for 38.

In terms of the "what if" game with Josh Allen & Buffalo making silly mistakes, the Chiefs defense gave up 20 points to the Jaguars last week. But it could have easily been 30+ points based on a few key mistakes by the Jaguars. The "what if" game applies to every offense or defense of course.

Having said the above...if Mahomes and his teammates are locked in on offense and kicking field goals, they can score 40ish on pretty much anyone. They showed this against the Niners in San Fran earlier in the season.

The Franchise 01-28-2023 03:44 PM

Don't forget that during that game earlier this year....Thornhill picked off Burrow and they called it back because of a bullshit PI call on McDuffie.

The same McDuffie who held Chase in check.

This is why I think we desperately need to implement more play action into the game plan. Andy really does not use it enough and while I understand why - CEH was ****ing garbage - Pacheco's emergence leaves no excuses. Andy has to make them pay for this, make them respect the run, and keep Lou and his front 7 honest with those drop backs and spies. It's hard to be as creative as Lou has been when you're in your base defense getting gashed constantly.

chiefzilla1501 01-28-2023 03:55 PM

So what is the deal with smith-Marsette? Is there any chance he takes on any return duties to give Pacheco and Toney a bit of a blow? That seems like a weird spot to try someone new. It makes the lammons decision a little tougher because now we know the chiefs probably could have had both lammons and kemp to shore up ST. Unless this guy has ST value outside of just return duties

Man this would be a really scary time to try out a new punt or kick returner.

I certainly don't think the Chiefs defense is or has been great or anything. I just think a nuts to nuts comp is difficult.

I'm on record as saying I think we need to get to 30 in order to win this game. The Bengals have gone 27, 27 vs us the last two. Anything under 27 is a major plus for the defense.

Yeah I think you need at least 30. Maybe 35. Would be awesome if the defense can hold them much closer to 20, which might be needed for KC to win if Mahomes & Kelce are both slowed down by the injuries.

Cincy does have a pretty good defense, so having Mahomes & Kelce injured brings a lot of uncertainty about how many points the KC offense can put on the scoreboard. I would love to see the KC defense pull something crazy and hold Cincy below 20, lol

I think so too. So I’m a little shocked by this. If we need an emergency WR then kemp should fill that void. So did we need to bring up another WR too? Feel like I’d rather a guy who can at least contribute on special teams … maybe he does that, but he seems like more of a return guy.

chiefzilla1501 01-28-2023 04:15 PM

Is smith-Marsette a bad sign for mecole? If mecole can’t go will he be used as a gadget option? And if he is an option it sounds like he’s had problems in the past with ball security. That makes me a bit nervous as well. Intrigued but really hope a game of this magnitude isn’t where we try something new here.

Titans scored 17 in the first 20 minutes and then were shut out until a late 4th garbage TV after we were up 35-17.

RunKC 01-28-2023 04:29 PM

The difference between these games is that the Chiefs made a lot of mistakes and didn’t execute efficiently at a consistent level and the Bengals made few mistakes and executives well.

That’s it.

The Bengals played a B+ game at worst last time while played a C+ game at best and they still barely won.

They need to do what they did in the first half of the championship game last year. Get pressure. Get some stops. If you watch the replay, Burrow almost had a pick on the 2nd drive bc of pressure. He was also sacked. And guess what? They scored only 3 points.

Mahomes yolo pick, Kelce fumble, missed FG, bad tackling, not getting Burrow to the ground when your hands are on him. If you cut those mistakes in half, our chances of winning rise dramatically.

Bengals had 10 points instead of 3 points in the first half last year. Cincy put together a TD drive that ended with 1 minute left in 2nd quarter. And of course KC had the drive with 1 minute left that ended with no points on the Bengals goal line. If I remember right, KC had wasted a timeout earlier in the half and sadly it came back to hurt them in the final seconds of the half.

The most recent game featured a reversal of fortune in terms of failing on the goal line. Cincy missed out on 3-7 points to end the first half when Carlos Dunlap blew up their 4th down rushing attempt near the KC goal line.

They are the defending AFC Champions, they have beaten KC three in a row, and put a beat down on the preseason SB champions in their house. That’s why they are that way. Their HC allows this and they seem to enjoy being the bad guys. Until someone in the AFC shuts them up in the playoffs they will continue to be like this.

What’s the latest on this? Sounded like there were lots of tickets still on sale. Really hate that anyone who cares about the chiefs would do anything to hurt homefield for money. The weather makes me a little nervous about attendance.

chiefzilla1501 01-28-2023 08:10 PM

The whole thing pisses me off that these fairweather shits are getting any kind of credit because they started showing up in droves once they started winning. I can’t even express how badly we need to shut this shit down.

It's inflation man. People need $$. Weather never scared any Chief fan off unless they were in the gutter record wise. Inflation !!

Going to be embarrassing when there are more Who Dey’s than Chiefs chants tomorrow.

Cincinnati doesn’t have inflation?

chiefzilla1501 01-28-2023 08:15 PM

Oh well, it’s going to be a horrible walk of shame for them when they have to all pout home in their bengals jerseys. Knowing that they have no more football to watch until December.

RollChiefsRoll 01-28-2023 08:17 PM

Are there actually reeruns on this board thinking the Bengals will have more than about 10% of the stands tomorrow? Lmmfao.

There is no way this is an issue.

I should have also used the words "greed and desperation" along with inflation and a fan base with no SB trophy will sacrifice going further in debt. So it's a combination of inflation, greed and desperation among both fan bases here.;)

Bout the same freezing cold temp it was when we whipped Tennessee’s ass and went on to win a Super Bowl.

Looking at Stubhub there is a shit ton of tickets for sale. Upper level going for $250 or higher.

The Chiefs are going to stomp these overrated fools. So we’ll probably feel pretty good tomorrow at 9.
