I wouldn't have a huge problem with that line of thinking if the same amount of posers that were at the event today are not at any sporting event...any one...

True. If Bwillie has ever lamented the infamous Arrowhead "wine-and-cheese" crowd then he should either 1.) hate on football as much as soccer, or 2.) hate on neither.

I am sure nobody loves KU basketball because it is the trendy thing to do... ROFL

I don't like soccer, and I will go back to not caring about it. But I did root for the U.S.

Before this World Cup I'd say I was more or a casual soccer fan. I really love the World Cup, the way it's set up, the quality of play, the superstars of the sport, etc. If there was a qualifying match on, Champions League, or an EPL match in between and I wasn't doing anything I'd watch it. I think I'll be a more dedicated follower now.

I've always been partial to Bayern Munchen internationally. My dad was born nearby and I got a Munchen jersey for my birthday one year when I was younger. I know they're basically the Yankees of the Bundasliga, but I don't live in Germany so BFD.

As for the MLS, I have a hard time watching it on TV. I'm glad there are now soccer only stadiums because the football lines on the field really bothered me and it seems the atmosphere would be better in a smaller stadium. I considered myself a Wizards fan by default, but looking at the Philadelphia Union website, I think I'll try them. They are close enough that I could go to their new stadium, which looks sweet, they have cool colors and logo. Not to mention the Brazilian midfielder simply named: Fred.

That's the kind of connection to a European club that I so wish I had. Lacking a similar sort of connection, I'd just feel like a bitch-made little bandwagoner of any club.

I also like Manchester City because when I was in high school I was really into Oasis and they are huge City supporters and they convinced me.

Probably a repost...I had ESPN on late last night and the one dude was reporting from KC. He was saying how awesome it was down there and how it was the largest gathering to watch the game in the US.

ESPN is not hating itself in the least. They didn't plan on USA winning the cup or anything. TV ratings are up 68% compared to 4 years ago. Wow.

Let's look at the ratings next week compared to when the US was still alive. My guess is that they drop at least 50% in the US.

Give ESPN some credit, they put on one hell of a promotion clinic when it comes to soccer. Their AM radio sports guys bashed soccer for the last decade, but when ESPN got the tv deal, they turned them into promoting animals.

Timing didn't hurt, either. NBA, NFL, and College Sports are all in their slowest time of the year (LOL at baseball).

Hell, in years past I didnt' give a rats ass about anything to do with soccer, much less the WC. I followed the team, learned some players names, and actually watched some replays of the games this year. IMO that is a huge leap for the sport if they can draw a little interest from people like me.

Excellent work.

two excellent matchups today with name brand teams...

fug i am disappointed we couldn't pull that off....we lost precisely because of our weaknesses - striker and central defense...we needed a great player to make a great play, and that was supposed to be Howard...he had to stop one

oh well...

Excellent work.

Might be true IF there was not such a large contingent of Central and South American teams in the cup and who reside in the US. I might agree with you if Mexico is ousted as well as the US.

I'm more bummed today than yesterday. UGH. :cuss::cuss::cuss:
