You seriously underestimate how much energy we could generate from these alternative source on a mass scale, never mind they could power each other. As for not being able to power all electric cars, you might be right. but it could easily power mass transit systems in anything close to being called a metropolitan area and still power electric cars for the rural ones as a supplement. I believe strongly that mankind, if given the opportunity (like all our politican's bank accounts put together) is more than smart enough to solve our global energy problem before it turns into a crisis.
