Very little of the electricity we use comes from oil, BTW.

BITCH, Take that shit to DC!! - :D

from where i work to where i live would take me 3-4 hours to walk. considering it's all highway, i could bike there in 30 minutes, but no amount of money for gas, insurance, repairs, property tax etc. is worth risking my life.

the new demand, as i've posted at least twice now, will come when we officially run out of oil.

I knew the electricity part, just repsonded to Penguins post.

Run out of Oil? You mean like in another 100+ yrs?

Same thing with wind.

Same thing with wave.

Same thing with geothermal.

We could readily do it with nuclear.

You seriously underestimate how much energy we could generate from these alternative source on a mass scale, never mind they could power each other.

As for not being able to power all electric cars, you might be right. but it could easily power mass transit systems in anything close to being called a metropolitan area and still power electric cars for the rural ones as a supplement.

I believe strongly that mankind, if given the opportunity (like all our politican's bank accounts put together) is more than smart enough to solve our global energy problem before it turns into a crisis. I have faith on us. You're free to disagree.

I wish it were that far away.

Are you or are you not in favor of building more nuclear plants?

No, I don't underestimate it. I'm well-aware of the potential of each. And, as I mentioned, a mass scale would be required by all of them in order to meet the demand required to go all electric.

Depends. If they were used as a means to an end for a short while, the end being an energy recycling self sustaining avenue of renewable energy, than sure, it'd be worth it. For a little while.

As a permanant replacement for oil? absolutely not.

Are you in favor using oil ceaselessly until we're completely out and turning around to your kids and saying "My home's paid off, my retirements set, my 401k and Roth iras are enough to cover ME, don't know what you'll all do. Not my problem, sucks to be you guys!"

?

No, AS I MENTIONED, a mass scale would be required by all of them in order to meet the demand. You're the one who disagreed with this.

Okay. I'm glad that aren't entirely opposed to nuclear. Just as an example, here are some numbers:

Wind farm near Salina
Covers 12,000 acres
Generates 100 MW

Wolf Creek
Covers about three acres
Generates 1,100 MW

We'll utilize oil until something else comes along that is as efficient in terms of both economics and physics.

So you want to cover the entire country with solar panels, wind farms and our entire coast(s) with wave generation?
