Hawkeye was also a character in James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans". I'm not sure if he was the source of the nickname.

Iowa was nicknamed the "Hawkeye State" originally as a tribute to an Indian named Chief Black Hawk.

Okay, for the sake of being simplistic, we'll say a "Hawkeye" is the eye of a Hawk. Hence the team symbol that is a hawk's head, including an eye.

Then you should be the Iowa Hawkheads.

Okay fine. And you should be the Rogers, Arizona Dickhead(s).:)
