If I recall correctly, isn't the Sun Bowl an Big 10 vs Big 12 game? I couldn't quite remember if it was the 98 season where KSU was undefeated, only lost to the Aggies in OT, and even though they were in the top 5, they went to the Sun Bowl aganist Purdue.

Alamo Bowl.

So there isn't any such thing? Now who would have a mascot that doesn't really exist?

jspchief 11-22-2004 08:26 AM

Hawkeye was also a character in James Fenimore Cooper's "The Last of the Mohicans". I'm not sure if he was the source of the nickname.

Iowa was nicknamed the "Hawkeye State" originally as a tribute to an Indian named Chief Black Hawk.

Okay, for the sake of being simplistic, we'll say a "Hawkeye" is the eye of a Hawk. Hence the team symbol that is a hawk's head, including an eye.

Then you should be the Iowa Hawkheads.

Okay fine. And you should be the Rogers, Arizona Dickhead(s).:)

Seriously, if you want to poke fun at mascots, there are much easier targets than IA.

Ah yes, thank you for correcting me. It was the Alamo Bowl. Drew Brees was playing for Purdue that year as well.

Isn't the high school in Rogers nickname the Mounties?

It's pretty much guaranteed that it will be the Cap One Bowl...

The opponent now really depends on the outcome of the SEC championship game...if Auburn wins, Iowa will likely play LSU.
