I am all for Tuck in the 2nd!!

Chiefs Pantalones 04-19-2005 08:49 AM

Of course we will, he's a Holliday/Hicks clone.

Brock 04-19-2005 08:55 AM

I doubt it, but I'd wait and see what he does in his rookie season before I complained about it.

Now how exactly do we know James is a bust? the guy hasn't even played a down in the NFL, and people on this board are calling him a bust? :shake:

I sure wouldn't mind if the chiefs drafted a DE in the first round...Pollack would be my first choice, then James. James is in my top 10 of players I want the Chiefs to draft. Eric Hicks isn't exactly the PLAYER on this defense...Any upgrade we can get over him I'd be pleased.

SCTrojan 04-19-2005 10:09 AM

My problem isn't with James or any DE available for that matter.

It all comes down to how the draft evolves, but I think that drafting a CB or LB with #15 is more logical.

Of the three units on D, I would argue that D-line had the most talent, depth and productivity last year. That's only improved with the addition of Carlos Hall and a year of experience for Siavii.

Granted, this is kind of like saying of all the sucky units on defense, the D-line is the best, but that's the wonder that is the Chiefs defense.

PastorMikH 04-19-2005 10:19 AM

The thought of throwing another high pick and a D Lineman troubles me. Sure our DL needs help, but that is the one spot we have drafted more people at than any other (4 DL vs 1 LB, 2 DB since DV came to town) - and even after spending first day draft picks on 4 DL over the last couple of years, our D Line still needs help and half of those draft picks are gone, one doesn't play, and the other is a big dissapointment. I am convinced that this team either can't scout the quality DL Players, or can't develope them.

Add to the mix that right now our DL is probably the place where we have the most depth, and LB and CB are real problems, I don't think picking up a DL project with a first day pick without addressing the immediate needs first is a good idea. I'm more than a bit concerned with our LB situation on opening day. Fuji just had surgery, Mitchel hasn't showed me anything impressive yet, Fox doesn't have enough PT for me to even develope an opinion of him yet, and Caver has already been a bust for another team. Right now, I'm seeing Bell for sure, the other 2 LB spots are crap shoots. As for CBs, anyone else comfortable with Bartee starting?

I think we need LB help FIRST, followed by a CB. Then we can talk
about another DL without me getting irritated.

Of course the experts think we will draft James. He is the most likely player that will be available to us to go bust. Aside from the injury issues, he has been cited for not playing hard all the time and having a lack of leverage to fight off blocks. We'll fool them. For the first time since '97, our first round pick is going to be worth a damn.

He's definitely a possibilty of being a bust, but proclaiming it as fact is a bit premature don't you think?

Bowser 04-19-2005 11:02 AM

We're not going to draft a defensive end in the first round. That would mean we would carry 5 DE's - Hicks, Allen, Hall, and Wilkerson. If we cut Wilkerson, that would be a mistake. All he needs playing time.

There are a couple of exceptions, but if we take anything other than linebacker or corner in the first, I will be pissed.

I think you are probably right; that's why I think we're more likely to go OLB/CB/WR....with BAA deciding which in each round, for our first three picks.

old_geezer 04-19-2005 11:36 AM

An old geezer's thoughts on the Chief's draft process. First of all, we have to trade that 2nd for Surtain. He's worth it and I really don't think Miami would accept our 4th this year and another pick in next year's draft. Would you trade Larry Johnson for Miami's 4th round pick this year and a 3rd or 4th next year. (just an example). I sure as hell wouldn't, and Surtain is worth more that Johnson.

If we aquire Surtain, I don't think we will pick a CB in the first round. The CB's are plentiful this year and the Chiefs can address their need for a nickleback in the 3rd or 4th round. I think the Chiefs will do everything they can to trade down with their #1 to aquire another high pick. With their two high picks they would hope to select either Thomas Davis (who I am beginning to think is the best possibility for a WSLB this year ) or Kevin Burnett; and a DE such as David Pollack or Matt Roth.

If they stay put at #15 I think the only logical choice would be Erasmus James..........or if they did not aquire Surtain; they would have to draft DB - most likely Rogers.

There is quality depth at DE and CB this year in the draft. I don't think there is a LB or DT worth our #15 pick.

(This is of course assuming that Derrick Johnson is long gone by the time we pick)

Ditto...

FWIW, Dr. Z from Sports Illustrated has us picking Davis from Georgia with the #15 pick. Not sure if this link will work, but I can't really cut and paste the format, so here it is:

http://premium.si.cnn.com/pr/subs/si...425/index.html

He uses this quote: "I know, 15th is awful high for a safety," Dick Vermeil says, "but this guy can do so many amazing things, I can't pass him up."

I'll throw my ****ing television out the window...

Tribal Warfare 04-19-2005 11:51 AM

if they convert him to OLB I wouldn't mind it. Chuck Cook is saying Safety, but Gun would put him at OLB.
