I fully expect there to be cap casualties, and the fact that it could be Woods and Bell comes as no surprise to me.

I watched Bell play in Pittsburgh. He was a beast. A prototypical LBer. He was A constant havoc in the backfield, blowing plays up. However, injury problems have hampered his career. I think with Bell and the Chiefs it was just wrong timing. He wasn't the same after recovering from an injury. In addition to that, I think the Chiefs didn't utilize him properly. We asked him to be our "weakside linebacker" when it is clear cut he is not that kind of player.

I still think he is ok. But probably better off somewhere else. Bell is more of "right inside linebacker" in a 3-4 defense. Or, possibly a MLB. Im just gonna say if we do keep him, I wouldn't mind it, as long as we converted to a 3-4, and used him in the inside.

That's the only way I'd keep him. If we keep him, given his upcoming salary, and continously used him as our "weakside linebacker", count me as disappointed.

[KFFL] The Sports Xchange reports that the Chiefs are likely to do something with linebacker Kendrell Bell, who's salary will count more than $7.2 million against the team's 2006 salary cap after experiencing an unproductive first season in Kansas City last year. Bell could well end up being a cap casualty.
They also report that the Chiefs will try and restructure the contract of safety Jerome Woods who no longer fits in their plans, but it would cost the Chiefs $3.5 million against the cap to cut him this year. The Chiefs will also try to rework the current deal of tight end Tony Gonzalez who is do bonus that would put his cap number in excess of $6.5 million this season. Chiefs President Carl Peterson has said he wants to take care of Gonzalez before he does anything in free agency.
