Since when does the public have a right to know? It is a personal medical problem, why do we need to know. Out of curiosity it would be interesting to know, but to say we have a RIGHT is wrong.

I'm sure it probably will, and you could argue that it's rightfully so. But by saying nothing they leave everyone to speculate which isn't necessarily a good thing either. It's pretty much a catch-22 for the family. Anyway, I need to head out for the day, if I hear anything new I'll drop you a PM.

The public's right to know must be balanced with the privacy of Marlon and his family. If I'm an editor, I'd have concerns about publishing the truth. I don't think I would do it.

The public has no RIGHT to know. You are missing the whole point. If they had a RIGHT to know it would be illegal to withhold the info. Since it isn't, there is no RIGHT to know. I think there are privacy laws for a reason.

At some point, the University will release a statement. It will probably not have much info though. The media here is pretty pissed about the lack of information. Personally, I think it's great.

We'll hear what happened though. I don't think the media here will just let it go, and sooner or later somebody will talk. Anonymously. But they will talk.

This doesn't mean he didn't OD, this just means he didn't OD on "illicit" drugs. He may legitamitely had painkillers and overdosed on them. It's the SP spin machine in action.

I doubt Pedey told Marlon's family what to say.

I don't. I'm sure Pedey was up all night preparing that statement. Regardless, you do agree the statement doesn't completely eliminate the possibility of some type of overdose, don't you? The gratuitous use of "illicit" really bothers me. You can overdose on legal drugs too.

What does "Rosie" have to say about this?

Now you're starting to sound like a journalist instead of me :)

I can believe his family. The situation will blow over soon.

Well, his minions over at bigredboard.com have bought the story hook, line, and sinker, if that tells you anything.
