Let me ask you MHM, as this thread's Broncos representative, I've been considering several packages that the Broncos and Chiefs could agree to. Give me your thoughts on each.

#1. Wes for a 5th rounder in 2008.

#2. Wes for Foxworth, straight up.

#3. Wes for Paymah and a 7th.

#4. Wes for a 5th and Reid.

I think #1 is most likely. #2 would be a great trade for both teams, but I don't think Shanahan or Broncos Nation wants to part with Fox, #3 would be a good deal for Denver and a marginal hosing for KC, and #4 would be a good deal for KC and a marginal hosing for Denver.

Well, I'm not sure I recall a time when Shanahan was hosed on a trade... I don't think they'll part with Foxworth. I would think a 5th rounder is too high and I'm certain that a 5th and a player is out.

I would imagine it may be a 6th or 7th straight up. I'd have to see what throw away CB they might have to dangle, but can't imagine one.

You guys don't have a 6th in 2008, and a 7th is a joke for a free safety with 7 years' experience as a starter that could realistically beat Ferguson out of a job.

Edit: You forked up a 6th for Jamie Kennedy.

Greg Wesley > Jamie Kennedy.

Wes for a 5th is probably about as square as it gets.

It looks like Denver might be parting ways with Sam Brandon. If that is the case then you have almost no choice but to go out and get Wesley.

If we are going to improve a division rivals roster it is not going to be for a mere 6th or 7th round pick. The price is going to be higher for Denver so we would get a 5th at the very least.

Like I said ... haven't looked into it, but color me surprised if there's a straight up trade involving a 5th rounder.

What is KC's stance on the guy if they don't get a trade done? Are they likely cutting him?

There's been no public indication one way or another, but the smart money is on Wes getting released. Williams and McGraw will do just fine as backup S, and Wes' attitude makes him undesirable in KC.

If he gets cut, it's no secret who picks him up. And the Chiefs would be foolish to pay Wes for an entire year just to keep him from Denver's grubby li'l paws.

I say, whatever hesitation Carl's experiencing, he needs to take a Xanax and pull off the deal.

After Pollard and Page, Wesly is by far the best S we have on the roster. The only reason we would deal him is for salary reasons or to give a young guy a chance.

Since we are also hurting at CB, I don't see any value in giving Wesley away for a 5th, let alone less.

We need a little depth in the secondary.

Wes' attitude has reportedly (from numerous sources) deteriorated. He's an attitude & locker room chemistry problem, and he's expressed the desire for a change of scenery.

I just don't see Shanahan giving a rival, much less KC anything exciting for this guy.

You won't get him for a 6th, simply because you are a divisional rival.

Then if Sam Brandon is given an injury settlement have fun with Curome Cox and Hamzah Abdullah as backup safeties.

Oh, and John Lynch is old as dirt and Nick Ferguson is a free agent next year and the 2008 safety class sucks.

In 2 years Champ Bailey will be 31 and Dre' Bly will be 32. It's going to be fun to see this supposedly dominant secondary fall apart with age.

Direckshun 07-24-2007 11:13 PM

Well they won't get him for a 6th because they don't have a 6th to give.

You know, honestly, I'm surprised they're even making a run for him at all. The Chiefs and Broncos doing business is just bizarre, especially when there's a realistic chance they can pick him up if he gets released.

Then have fun with your crappy safeties.
