I wonder why Toronto would want to swap a broken down third baseman for an older broken down third baseman with more years?

They must believe that one is more broken down than the other.

B/c the grass is always greener and their GM is a fucktard.

This is the same guy that said that Gil Meche isn't very good.

As I said earlier, I'd much rather keep him and dump LaRussa. Oh well.

They sure have done a bang-up job of dismantling that '06 team. :shake:

Agreed. Although, I think Edmonds was done, and I still think if Carpenter were healthy, they're as good as Milwaukee or Chicago.

That team dismantled itself.

Edmonds was absofuckinglutely done, Rolen is a shell of his former self, Eckstein is starting to show his age, Encarnacion had his skull crushed, So was 900 years old, Mulder can't stay on the field, Weaver chased the bucks, Suppan wanted too much $$.

Ultimately, I think that Mozeliak has done a good job of changing the identity of the club in a time where we needed to change, because our veteran core was over the hill and rapidly declining.

Our farm system finally is showing signs of life (Colby Rasmus, Anderson, etc.) By the time '09 rolls around, we should be able to field a competive team with a mixture of good young talent and solid veterans.

Agree with everything EXCEPT Taguchi. I really think it sucks that they got rid of him. I know he's old, but he still hits well and is effective in the field.

And I'm bracing for a really shitty season, too. Hopefully it won't be Chiefs bad, but this team has some serious holes.

I fully expect them to be around .500. It's shitty in comparison, but it won't be some 65 win debacle.

Edmonds and Rolen were basically replacement-level players last year.

I loved General So, but it's always better to get rid of a player one year too early, IMO.

Clement is another reclamation project, but he's proven to be a quality starter, and he came dirt cheap. Wainwright will be better this year, Mulder will at least give us something.

I don't know about Izturis or Kennedy, though.

A healthy Scott Rolen is better than a healthy Troy Glaus, that's my guess as to why they did it. The big question is whether the two of them will ever be fully healthy again.

officially official?

not really anything else we could have done. High $'s contract with a player in the doghouse with his manager and casuing a problem in the clubhouse. His manager wants him gone. Our new GM didn't have alot of leverage.
