I look forward to the Cards and Royals every year. The cards one of my worst hated teams. Not so much for the actual players, but for the fans who over the years always seem to find different ways to piss me off. The good thing about baseball is even though you might suck...suck harder than any other team ever. You are bound to steal a couple wins from any team. Especially teams from the NL...who the royals have played tough over the years. Some of my foundest memories are of Sweeney hitting a walk off, the bazillon to not alot ass kicking the royals put on the cards in the K last year. I remember one time Fernando Vina flied out to the warning track and i yelled out "YOU DON'T HAVE THAT SHORT PORCH LIKE IN BUSCH and these redbird fans got all pissy." It's the same distance..... I know I know settle down, they must not have sarcasim over at busch. I remember one series they key's to the series was to keep pujols in the yard (he went deep 3 times) I wonder if I will see any cards getting drunk on the plaza. It never fails I see some cards out partying it up. It will be a good time, I am alittle beat down this year about the royals. I have seen many turds on the shit sandwhich to get excited. I called a 96 loss season but I just thought it was going to be us out played due to talent and not us pissing away games like we have never touched a ball before. Alas I take it all with a grain a salt, because a nice night, a cold one, crack of the bat, makes me feel good no matter how shitty the royals are

I get a little riled being here and talk about it, and then when I go in search of fellow cards fans talking about it at interleague time, most times all I find is something akin to "Time to play the Royals again, how are they this year? They always seem to play us pretty well, despite thier record. I bet I can get some tickets to one of the games over there at thier park."

BS. I always go to the whole series here in St. Louis in my Royals attire. Not once do I bring up the subject, and no less than 5 times a night does something get said about it. Try it out - wear Royals stuff for a night - and see just how hung up and moronic Cardinal fans are.

"Hey - did you hear that we are the best fans in baseball? Oh, Stubby Clab just struck out - we need to give him a standing O. Come on! Come on people! If we don't give him a standing O, we won't be the best fans in baseball anymore!!! We are in Baseball Heaven, for crying out loud. If you don't stand up, I swear, I will report you and your Cardinal Nation citizenship will be revoked."

Five times...probably right after they put something up on the big screen talking about the Royals beting the cards in 85? Imaging that.

This series is the times when the subject comes up all over the place, I am just saying that the Cards fans don't dwell on the subject the way that everyone claims that they do, nor is the rivalry such a heated thing. Royals fans hate the Cards fans, Cards fans that deal with Royals fans all the time hate them at times from sheer annoyance, otherwise they are just another fan from another team.

What's funny, is that they never seem to appreciate the irony that the only way the Rams advanced to the Super Bowl in 1999 was a blown call on the Buc's Bert Emmanual's reception that was called incomplete.

allen_kcCard is living in some parallel universe where 75% of Cards fans aren't total jackasses around anyone from KC. The vast majority of St. Louisians have such disdain for Kansas City its amazing. They literally must be genetically predispositioned from birth to trumpet all of the ways that STL is supposedly better than KC.

Allen, you are way out of touch with reality if you truly believe your assessment of the Cards fan base.

allen_kcCard 06-17-2008 12:17 PM

Rams fans != cardinals fans

Cardinals fans spread all over the state, most of them I know are life long type fans who follow a team for a long time. That means they are Chiefs Fans, and Cardinal Fans.

To me the point above is as moot as any other blown call that cost a team a big game or series.

(FWIW... Cards fan talking)

Not sure why I even bother BUT:

No matter who you are a fan of you are going to find fans from other teams that annoy you. Hell, you will probably find fans of your team that annoys you. For one, I am sickened by the occassional reference from Royals fans about 1985 and how they won the last time "it mattered" between the two clubs. But I am just as sick of the Cards fans bringing up the call. Either way it was 23 years ago. Either was this is a series that no one outside of a very small minority will consider a rivalary.

I firmly believe that no matter what fan base you look at you are going to find the fans that will always something so truly ignorant and absurd that "justifies" their teams or makes their teams appear better to another fan base. I will even go as far as to say that this percentage is roughly the same for all fan bases. People need to quit whining (and bragging) about 1985 and start taking the series for what it is... 3 games out of a 162 game season.

The people that brag (or whine) about something that happened in 1985 are the same people that still brag about when they were younger they won a little league championship. Give me a break... it's over.

Besides this, some fans do cheer for both teams (like me), but their loyalty resides with one team more heavily.

AND we have at least one thing in common if you are a true Royals/Cards fan... we hate the teams from Chicago.

Oh quit crying. I'm sorry some big bad Cards fan regularly kicks your ass and steals your lunch money, but that doesn't make the rest of us assholes.

ROFL I had forgotten about ole Stubby Clapp. A guy gets a standing ovation because of his goofy ass name, made me sad to be a Card fan.

I didn' grow up in KC or St.Louis. I am from mid Mo, and casually rooted for the Royals until I moved to KC. Since moving here my like for the Royals has gradually fell into general dislike because of Royals fans acting like what you say the cards fans are like, but without a leg to stand on (other than 85 (remember the call)). I grew tired of the hate for the Cards, when I don't see the reason for it, the huge ups at the beginning of the season, followed by the huge downs as soon at histoty repeats itself and the team turns into what the fans expeced all along.

I'm not sure if you are spilling the talk about the baseball teams and thier fans over from it being that, or a St. Louis citizens vs. Kansas City citizens. I don't know or care what the people who live there think of the people who live here, I am talking about the baseball fans from my hometown, and tons of other town in the cardinal's fanbase, which of course also has some of them from St. Louis itself, and what they think of the Royals and thier fans...that being just another team, and in this case one that hasn't been very good in any remotely recent years.

Pasta Little Brioni 06-17-2008 12:27 PM

Most Cardinal fans have moved on from '85, but I guess you are always going to have a select few jackasses who can't. Cards have done some good things since then, so there is no need to dwell on the past when you are winning in the present.

I think a simple fact is that the people that continue to INITIALLY bring up 1985 are either : too bitter to accept it/get over it, too ignorant to realize it is in the deep past, or not a real fan of the team and is bringing it up to brag (in order to act like he knows some historical facts about "his" team) or bringing up to just annoy someone.

Exactly. Everyone down here will go out of their way to tell you that KC has an inferiority complex to St. Louis. They will offer this unsolicited. It is unbelievable, but the fact is, KC is not the one with the complex. St. Louis has a Superiority Complex versus KC, directly related to the inferiority it feels to Chicago. It is quite comical.
