No, but I know it's there and to look out for it. Anyone who is not real local could easily miss it or not be able to stop because a pedestrian jumped out in front of them while they were going the speed limit.

40% of California households speak spanish now. We have a lot of pedestrians which is why they put these in but they are dangerous without stoplights especially in zones exceeding 25 MPH. $1,000 is ridiculous as well.

Simply Red 09-24-2008 11:45 AM

That's pricey for speeding. What speed in what zone?

gblowfish 09-24-2008 11:48 AM

Back in January I got pulled over by an unmarked car for doing 38 in a 25 mph school zone. Never saw the school, the zone, any kids or obviously the cop. The cop goes "you'll be happy to know the state of Kansas just doubled the fines for speeding in a school zone." He was real smarmy about it. Ticket was $490!
That's why he was speed trapping there. Cha-ching.
I'd never been in that neighborhood before, and didn't think I was going that fast. The normal speed on that street (75th st in OPKS) is 40 mph.

Cop was city of Shawnee.

Well either that or they grabbed some pedestrians on the street and bought them a buch of tacos or something. What difference does it make, they were the same people.

That sounds like the construction zone scams up here in Nebraska. They'll leave the signs up for a month or so after the projects are done just to generate some extra revenue.

Speeding in a school zone. I paid it. Luckily my insurance didnt go up, but I've got to drive clean for six more months.

Demonpenz 09-24-2008 11:54 AM

Sometimes when I walk to the store. I have to cross back across to street to get back to my house.

We have some pedestrian crossing in 40mph zones here. It is kind of stupid, but it is there. So, is this a temporary thing or some new crossing that they built? Perhaps you could take a pic for us.
