Yeah, sounds like the "payday loans" people have a new racket. They are the same ones that have the rent-a-centers and the like that "let" you make payment for 5 years and pay $8000 for a $500 pc of furniture. Who's the idiot in those scenarios?

At least Rent-a-Centers generally prey on stupid kids. I figure the average sucker getting taken by gold-for-cash types are middle-aged people who have lost their jobs and can't find new ones, and are so desperate for cash that they'll do pretty much anything. It's very sad.

I had some bitch call me the other day about debt consolidation and lowering credit card interest rates. It was a decent, reasonable pitch, I actually asked her to send me some literature. Instead, she tried to get me to give her my credit card number over the phone (so she could "check my credit" :rolleyes: ). The bullshit flag went up immediately, and when I told her that I wouldn't give her the number, she hung up without saying another word. I don't know where she is, but I hope she's in a lot of pain right now.

Thieves don't scare me quiet as much as the current craze of anonymous companies coming out of the woodwork trying to gather all the gold they can get their hands on. I kind of hope it is nothing more than preying on down on their luck people and not a sign of things to come.
