Exactly. Everyone thought Microsoft was subsidizing this huge portion of their consoles in an attempt to get a larger marketshare. Now everyone realizes that they're pieces of shit and Microsoft is probably pulling a profit from them. They're trash. Flat out.

Is this one backwards-compatible?

Deberg_1990 06-11-2009 10:24 AM

Anything over $300 is too much for a gaming system.

Thats one of the main reasons the Wii has been so successful.

Not for PS2 games, only PS1...but who cares about that.

Really? It it only the 60gb that can play the ps2 games? That's pretty weak sauce.

The Original 60 GB has Hardware Backwards compatibility.

Thats when they had the 20GB and the 60 GB

The next set that came out was a 40 GB and 80 GB

That 80 GB had software emulation to where you could play some PS2 Games.

Every model that has come out since then does not have Backwards compatibility, including this one.

Mr. Flopnuts 06-11-2009 10:46 AM

I have the 40 gigger. I don't play old PS2 games so it doesn't really matter to me. But that sucks.

jidar 06-11-2009 10:58 AM

I have a PS2 anyway so I bought the cheaper one.

The thing has been rock solid for me while I've had one RROD on a 360 that I had to get replaced.
Of course it has about 20-30 hours playtime while my 360 probably has over 2000...

I have a good 1500 hours + on my PS3 (40 GB that I upgraded to 250 GB) and its fine.

I've pretty much heard that the original 40 GB model cant over heat. The fan thats in there is perfect for cooling it down.

It was one of the features Sony cut out of the newer models to get it down to the $400 price point.

The price is easy to justify and actually a pretty good value if you make use of the media center features and blu-ray.

The fan in my 80 GB (the successor to the 40 GB) isn't terribly loud. At least it's not the 360 which sounds like it is preparing for takeoff.

They did start out at a loss, but that isn't the case anymore, and has never been much of a secret like you imply.
