This guy could have easily given up football, but he stuck with it and became an elite college player. His routes are so nice to watch. Don't think he's a typical Mack Brown prospect and Im a huge UT hater. Draft experts... how does he compare to Steve Smith from the NYG? His timed speed, size and injury history could allow him to slip a bit

Steve Smith comes from USC and a pro style offense, Shipley comes from the gimmick college spread.
I don't see Shipley as an NFL player other than a fringe backup. |
ok...Harvin came from a gimmick offense. Im talking prospect here... not production

This is what I wanted feedback, and a healthy discussion. I agree; TX has produced a ton of busts. For whatever reason, TX guys often don't live up to their hype. And yes, it is a spread offense.
But what you can't take out of the picture for a certain player is intangibles that would translate directly to the NFL. My argument for Shipley is that he is fast as shit; he runs super sharp routes; he is a returner; he blocks down field; and he has sure-enough hands. I'm not saying he is a Calvin Johnson. I am saying that I think he could be a very productive WR in the NFL; especially in a Haley offense. I am wondering what you all think he is worth and what you think he is capable of. No, I don't think Briscoe is a solid NFL WR prospect, but I do think he will go in the late first to mid second round in the upcoming draft. |

And Shipley is not remotely as gifted as Harvin, Harvin was the #1 player in the country his recruiting year, he got drafted high for pure physical gifts. Here look at this... http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2010WR.php Look how low these guys are. |
Shipley will be 24 in December. Don't know if that is relevant or not, but seems kind of old for a rookie come next season.

24. Dezmon Briscoe*, Kansas
Height: 6-3. Weight: 200. Projected 40 Time: 4.56. Projected Round (2010): 5-6. 21. Jordan Shipley, Texas Height: 6-0. Weight: 195. Projected 40 Time: 4.45. Projected Round (2010): 5-6. Discussing these guys near the 1st or 2nd round is not even funny. |
I guess our own fine texas product has not swayed any one from realizing that texas players bust more often then not. Hopefully Jamaal Charles will break that
|
This isn't that great of a WR year but why on earth would we discuss the guys who are bums?
|
how surprising.... Mecca backing up his claim with a link to a draft site.
Shipley was fast as hell (timed) in HS and still may be, though I wouldn't be so confident. Im no expert but his routes look tremendous. He carried McGee in HS who was a bum a A&M and he has helped Colt McCoy look like a Heisman candidate. |
The system is carrying McCoy.
|
I said help... he carried mcgee
|
I would rather we take Jacoby Ford than Shipley, and hopefully not in the first 4 rounds.
