I did, however, beat my personal best yesterday in the half-marathon. I ran the Denver half-marathon in 2:06:39, blasting my old record by 7 minutes and 4 seconds. SNR, I'll pm you with the details.

He beat me to. Ran my first here in Indianapolis. Came in at 2:02:18.:) Thought I could break 2 hrs at the 9-mile mark, then the hills got me.

Or being chased by the cops.

I ran the Chicago marathon Back in '04. Someone died during that one also. Apparently if you consume nothing but water for 4 hours while running 26.2 miles you can die from a lack of sodium. I had never heard of that before then.

I try and run 3 times a week. I've been doing it for years. I never have run a marathon and have no desire to do so. But, to each his own...

Well, I can see why they're suspicious about this. I mean, it was held in Detroit, after all.

Exactly, it is about taking on the challenge. Pushing yourself to your limits and beyond. The sense of accomplishment when you cross the finish is pretty excellent. I beat my previous best (set in April) by almost 9 minutes. In April I would have thought that it was impossible to meet, much less exceed, that time. I am not saying it is for everyone, but don't knock it just because it is not for you.

I'd say those three guys chose "beyond".

And they're wearing the professional helmet that makes them look like Spermhead meets Ridley Scott's "Alien". Dudes, you're out biking on a backcountry f**king road, you're not going downhill towards Paris wearing the yellow jacket...

Demonpenz 10-19-2009 02:58 PM

the ones i see don't wear those crazy helmets just the standard it's WHERE they ride. I don't get upset too much because hey atleast they are doing something other than sitting at walmart shoplifting pinwheels, but they are always in this road that has two lanes and the are riding for pleasure people swerve around them into on coming traffic, then i get pissed. I honestly just come up beside them and honk a ****ing air horn that my dad bought for his boat. Sometimes they fall, but **** them.

A few weeks ago I was trying to turn left at an intersection and a group of these spandex bike riders came toward me, and so I let them go past before I turned left. The last guy was (I thought) yelling something- he was mouthing the words like he was shouting. I thought he was yelling at me, so I got mad and yelled something like, "I let you go past asshole!"
Then, after I turned left, I realized he was trying to say "Thank you" so I would have been able to read his lips.

I'll take my chances of dropping dead in a race versus dropping dead of a coronary living my old lifestyle.

Oh, and to support Penz, I hate drivers when I'm running, I hate runners when I'm driving, but I pretty much always hate bicyclists. I ride my bike to work on rare occasion, but I map out a route WITH BIKE LANES. Not doing so makes you a selfish a-hole IMO.

This is so true that it is scary. ROFL

Demonpenz 10-19-2009 03:49 PM

i walk often but and run until i am out of breathe which is like two blocks, i hate it (and you know it's going to happen. when people are coming up to a busy street and their bumper pretty much goes into traffic as they are looking the other way, instead of staying behind the white line.

Infidel Goat 10-19-2009 05:17 PM

I think what is suspicious is that all three men died shortly after the 11 mile marker (assuming that the half marathon finishes at the 13.1 marker of the marathon course).

I am suspicious that they will find something in their system that was given to them by a spectator.

That being said, I'd still take water or gatorade at the legitimate aid stations if I were in a race...
