Does anyone know if Ali Villanueva will be at the combine, and also, what are your thoughts on him? The guy switched from starting at LT to starting at WR in one season. Do you think anyone will draft him on size alone? I've only seen him on one game, but he seems pretty sure handed. Could he be used as a big ass blocking TE who is an actual endzone threat?

For those who have not seen him:

Ok, just checked. Villanueva will not be present at the combine. Sad. I wanted to see a physical freak.

Dwyer is in the 220-225 range, meaning he played last year between 237-242. This may explain his yards-per-carry dip from 7.0 as a sophomore to 5.9 as a junior. Heading to the Combine, Dwyer's long speed is in question. Feb. 22 - 3:15 pm et

NFL reporter John McClain hears from "trusted scouts" that Baylor C J.D. Walton will be a second-round pick in April.
Walton, who goes 6'2/300, may be pushing to be the No. 2 center prospect in the draft behind Florida's Maurkice Pouncey. Walton started every game of his college career and made first-team All America over Pouncey last season.

Weigh-ins today are for OL and TE's only. No drills until tomorrow. They changed up the scheduling this year. First day - exams and interviews, 2d day weigh ins, 3rd day they start drills.

After looking at the schedule, you might want to add a few more "over"s. :spock:

Pioli says Chiefs will be active in free agency

Posted: February 25th, 2010 | Frank Tadych | Tags: 2010 NFL Scouting Combine, Kansas City Chiefs, Scott Pioli

INDIANAPOLIS — For those of us not working out, testing and interviewing this week, not everything at the combine is so serious. As such, Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli offered a fresh take on being here when he took the podium for a media session Thursday.

“It’s good to be back here,” offered Pioli, who’s attending his second combine since joining the Chiefs. “Actually, it’s a great time of year to be here. It’s also nice to actually walk through. … It’s the first time in a number of years I can walk down the streets of Indy and not be cursed at by Colts fans. So obviously I’m making progress.”

The very cordial Pioli spent the allotted 15 minutes at the podium, before spending another 25 minutes in a side session surrounded by at least another 25 reporters.

Pioli didn’t hide from the Chiefs’ 4-12 record last season, saying, “Unfortunately, when you win four games, you have to do a lot of things better.” He also promised that the Chiefs would be active in free agency.

“We were active last year,” Pioli said. “I think what happens sometimes is that you try to be active and you don’t always get deals done. We’re going to try to improve our team and supplement our team with free agents this year, as we did last year. So we will be involved in free agency, absolutely.”

Pioli also had some interesting takes on the interview process for players at the combine, as well as quarterbacks who elect not to work out, which I’ll get back to later tonight.

That's good to hear. I remember there being talk after Haynesworth signed with Washington last year that the Chiefs were one of the teams pushing hardest for him, but it seemed all but done before the start of FA that he would end up in Washington. I know he cost a fortune, but it sure would be nice to have that guy anchoring our defense as either a NT or an end.

Okung really has perfect size for an NFL LT:

Oklahoma State LT Russell Okung measured 6'5/307 at Thursday's weigh-in.
He's stouter than expected, after being listed at 6'5/300 by OSU. Most impressively, Okung has freakish 36-inch arms, which easily would've been the longest at January's Senior Bowl had he attended. Okung has received ticky-tack criticism in some circles, but he's clearly the draft's top left tackle.

Sorry we forgot to mention your god-like LT who got burned by our OLB this season! ROFL Seriously KnowMo, this thread is about a potential draft pick. Not existing donkey-turds.

As it looked on film, Bulaga has short arms.

BossChief 02-26-2010 03:03 AM

Makes you wonder a bit about Bulagas overall upside. I didnt think they were that short.

He may end up slipping a bit because some teams might now view him as a right tackle.
