I work at the base but live in Iowa, on purpose. Property taxes is the reason. For instance, I have a cabin on 5 acres in the woods and hills and pay about 2800 in property taxes on a 250,000 valued home. My old boss had a 300,000 value home and paid over 6000 in property tax in Bellevue, (Sarpy County).

Yep, I pay around 2800 for a house valued at 144K, but I'm in District 66.

lol...there are some rough areas up that way, but it's not like you're going to get killed if you drive down the wrong street.

Couldn’t be any worse than some areas of Atlanta. Thanks for all the input. One major reason for wanting to move is the piss poor schooling here in GA. Just want the best for my kids and I may have a job Opportunity in Omaha.

Pros: Plenty of choices of places to go eat and drink, a nice cold winter (I like winter so I see it as a pro) overall the seasonal changes are great, great outdoors activities, jobs seem to be available, easy to get around the city, for the most part you feel safe in most places, decent schools, a local music scene that is OK with a lot of good local bands, College World Series and some pretty good events at the Qwest Center

Cons: High taxes, not only homes but it cost us $500 to plate a new car and that was not including the sales tax, you have to listen about the Cornhuskers 24-7, potholes! Omaha's streets have never been that great but in the winter it is a mess like this year, some pretty humid days in the summer, lack of good fireworks for 4th of July (have to to to Missouri or South Dakota to get some good stuff), great grilling weather most of the year, home prices are decent.

As for where to live...I live in NW Omaha and think it is very nice. So is Sarpy County and Papillion.

From what I saw, there's not a whole lot of diversity in Omaha.

Whether you take that as a pro or a con is up to you.

I don't know a hell of a lot about Omaha really. Been through there a few times, but not with much time to explore much. Did get to check out the Omaha Zoo one time. That's pretty damn cool if you ask me. On a side note, what do you think of Atlanta? I might be moving out there soon, myself from ND. Not quite sure yet.

Here's a link to a great Omaha message board, there is a ton of good information about what's going on here. You can also ask questions on the Welcome to Omaha page without registering.

I'm getting ready to head out for the day, I'll check back here this afternoon but feel free to PM me anytime with any questions.

I'm sure that's a link to a blank page.

Pros: Niles Paul is from Omaha

Cons: You'll have to wait a few months before you can celebrate Nebraska winning the title.
