The balance he shows in the Florida run is sick.

OleMissCub 04-24-2010 12:26 AM

go to vimeo.com and type in Dexter McCluster. The only vid that comes up is the vid of his runs against Tennessee. I'm new here so I can't embed things yet.

Someone should embed that video in this thread.

People can say whatever they want about draft value and our more pressing needs, but I am excited to see what this guy can do next season.

They can also say he's switched to a pure slot WR but I think that'd be a huge mistake.

Put him and Charles in a 2RB 3WR set and who the **** do you cover?

Who'd run the ball?

What do you protect against?...

KCJohnny 04-24-2010 04:16 AM

Wow. McCluster makes the other athletes on the field look like they are in slow motion. This guy has Barry Sanders-like moves and natural open field ability. Not sure he's a second rounder, but I'd like to see him in preseason. He might be one of those RBs who gets his own yards whether on a good running team or not. It would be a shame to convert him to a WR only.

Some of those runs he won't be able to get away in the NFL. He'll be going against guys just as fast and as quick in the NFL and twice as big. Cutting back l across the field like that, won't work in the NFL at his speed/size/strength ratio.

No, maybe not, but he'd have a better chance of succeeding doing that than Lance Long or Bobby Wade, for whatever it's worth.

Does anyone remember David Palmer with Minny, I think from Alabama? McCluster could be headed for a David Palmer type role.

No, but check the cut at 6:02... I don't care who you are, there's only about 3 or 4 guys in the league who could counter that move, and one of them's Patrick Willis.

You'll also notice his blocking was kick ass and the tackling was half assed...

I was going mention that too, but I'm half asleep so I forgot.

Another thing that makes him impressive, imo, is that Ole Miss was a one dimensional offense... and he was the one dimension. Snead completely sucks. When Arkansas played them, it was no secret that the ball was going to McCluster. All we needed to do was shut him down to win, but we absolutely could not do it (once again, our defense was suspect... but he torched good defenses as well).

I'm not convinced that his skills (and size) will translate to the NFL, but I know I was screaming "**** YOU MCCLUSTER, TACKLE THAT LITTLE MIDGET BASTARD" at the TV set pretty frequently one Saturday in the Fall of 2009.
