I think that's a very unfair characterization, especially in 2010.

In the 70's & 80's, there was really no excuse for a half-filled stadium. Tickets were cheap and most local companies and corporations owned season tickets because they were able to write them off at 100%.

But with ticket, parking and concession prices as they are today, people just won't spend hundreds of dollars a weekend (if not way more) to consistently support a losing team.

I don't know how the recession is playing in KC because I don't know anyone, family or friends from high school and college, that lost their jobs or are unemployed because of it. But I'd imagine that most people have been watching the way they spend their money since the 2008 crash.

And a day at Arrowhead isn't cheap.

No.

KC has the one of the best fanbases in football. I'll never say the best, because that can't be measured conclusively. It's a matter of the community of Kansas City begrudgingly supporting a losing franchise for the last few years, and now enthusiastically supporting a franchise that is currently winning.

It cannot be argued that winning rachets up support while losing erodes support. But if a person was ever a real KC fan, they always hope for the best for the Chiefs.

But as DaFace is aware of, haters gonna hate. :)

Shoveling coal on the True Fan™ fire....

3 wins and we're all changed and shit....

DBOSHO 10-03-2010 12:10 AM

Well at least in my town, there are tons of fair weathers that tell me straight up that they only support them when they win.

A lot of people here have been wearing red around town and still going to the games regardless of record. Yelling just as loud.

It didn't take a 3 game winning streak to go "Hey, ya know what. I'm wearing the Chiefs shirt tonight to the soccer game. Whooo season tickets!"

great article

And we thank you for doing so! After my MNF experience, I'd go to every game at home and away if I could afford to.

Live Chiefs Football is just a gift from God. Period. Every fan I met was representing total class and goodwill.

It made the start of school a bit more tolerable. If the Chiefs continue to make positive changes, I'm happy to see it happen. Gains are necessary to ensure the Chiefs are relevant to our children in KC, or to ensure we see even just one Super Bowl appearance before our lives cease.

By the way, when did the Blue Ridge Mall turn into a Wal-Mart? I haven't been there since they had a Topsy's, V's next to the downstairs movie theater, and a Tape World, but I thought it'd still be there 10 years after I left KC.

wow, completely forgot about the movie theatre downstairs of the mall.

anyone remember that POS movie theatre they had across the street to right off of I70?

Good article. I have no idea why he felt the need to add that last segment though. It was long enough already without the Vernon "Bam" Morris story.

I thought that part illustrated more than any of the rest of that story how much the Chiefs make up the fabric of the city.

I have gotten my news from tribal warfare for too long. These are the articles he posts. Let's keep it that way. He has a much better sig than you.

“What the heck is going on?” we asked.

That turned out to be Marques Hagans, a 5-foot-9 wide receiver from Virginia. Well, he was a receiver and a quarterback at Virginia. He was drafted by St. Louis in the fifth round last year (as a receiver, of course). He got released last year. So, to sum up, the Chiefs had a receiver that the St. Louis Rams cut who was now lined up at quarterback.

Man I'm glad Herm is gone...That game was painful to watch.

Good article, but it scares me a little to hear about the players talk about getting pats on the back and congratulated everywhere they go.

That is a recipe for getting comfortable. They need to realize they haven't done anything yet. They 'know' it mentally, but they have to 'feel' it emotionally. Football is a game of 'want to'. Especially in today's game where the talent level of all the teams is pretty close.

Quit patting the guys on the back people.....walk up to them and say..."you know they don't give out trophies for 3-0, right?"
