You're not going to get much sympathy from people because your Mom worked for a company that doesn't give a shit about putting out a quality product. Furthermore, they decided that not only would they require their products to be replaced much sooner than the competition's, but they also decided to make it much more difficult to perform maintenance on those cars by consumers, thereby forcing them to pay outrageous mechanics fees. Pick a better company next time would be my advice.

Nice choice. I'm thinking about pickng up the same thing as my new company rig. The owner wanted to buy me a new Jeep grand Cherokee and I want the Toyota. I told the old boy the Toyota would go an extra 100K before it dies. We'll see how it goes down.

I have 248800 miles on my 13 year old truck.

I heard some of those guys made like $45 an hour to put a certain part on a car?

I posted this a few years back. The plant in question has since closed.

This is exactly the problem.

I've mentioned this friend of mine in the past, but to drive home the point...

I have a friend that works at the Chrysler plant here in STL.

His job?

Sit in a booth, with a list. On the list is the number of minivan parts that are to be painted a certain color. Example: The plan for his shift is to have say, 1000 hoods painted in a 10 hour shift. 15 blue, 15 red, 30 white, etc.

His booth consists of a chair and the control box. And him and the list, of course.

His pay for this job?

THIRTY ONE DOLLARS AN HOUR.

For those keeping score at home, that is $65,000 to sit in a room, and push a button to have a robot paint minivan parts.

And that's not counting overtime...

Good choice, VT.

The wife drives a 2003 Highlander. It has just over 170k on it, and we've never had to do anything to it other than routine maintenance, brakes, etc.

I'm all for supporting American made products. But I'm on my 5th American made car in 10 years and they are just shit products. Japanese and German cars are made much better than American. I think in the 80's, GM and Ford stopped making cars to last to get more repeat business. It's bad business to make cars last 10 years like they used to, right? I guess that's why they had to get bailed out, which made me furious. I thought that if you sucked at business, well you go out of business.

To be fair, Ford did not get a bailout. Instead they reworked their business model and have received pretty good reviews for their 2010 product.

You can get a loaded Taurus for only around $40,000.

Yeah but it's still a Taurus, or as we called them in the business a "Cle."

I was being sarcastic. I can't imagine why anyone would drop $40k on a Taurus.
