If that's true, one of the top 3 could fall to the middle of the first round and it wouldn't take as much for us to get him.

Luck is by far the best QB prospect.

No thanks..

Maybe they're equal in the sense that they're both equally not Manning, Brady, or Elway, but otherwise I don't see them as equals.

Depending on how sure I was that the guy would pan out, I would trade a couple of 1st round picks easily. I think we could get someone worth taking a chance on developing for less though.

I don't think Pioli will give away the farm for a single player in the draft though. That just doesn't fit his team development philosophy though. We are going to have to hope someone falls to us.

I don't know if you want to put all your eggs in the basket of a guy that has not proven to have elite talent.

I agree with this, but I don't think you can ever be that sure.

Does anyone really see this regime being willing to take a huge step back and go through the growing pains of a young QB the year following a 8, 9 or 10 win season?

I don't.

Be prepared for Cassel or a similarly talented QB off the scrap heap in 2011.

The Sanchez situation has shown that a n00b QB can develop, and the team can still compete at the highest level. Perhaps this will inspire confidence because we're headed in the direction of having everything but a QB.

NY was not a SB team last year, obviously, and they're not this year, but they're not exactly going through growing pains, either.

Bring in.......Chad Pennington. Yeah, I said it.:)

And we won't be picking 5th, either.

And even if we were, do you honestly think Pioli would take a QB with his 1st pick?

I don't. I fully expect him to stick to the Patriot Way and try to find a winner in the Superfecta laying in a beer puddle on the racetrack floor.

I was that sure on John Elway and Peyton Manning.

I felt really good about Sanchez, and would have pulled the trigger on two late-first-round picks or our number 3 pick that year.

Leinart was my only false positive that I can remember. I thought he'd be better than he has turned out to be. I was glad when neither Oakland or Denver got him.

I've missed identifying a bunch of guys that would be good picks, but I don't watch that much college ball.

I don't know. Part of me is ridiculously skeptical that he'd draft a QB that high, but I'm placing some solace in the claims that he'd "never draft a safety at 5."

Doesn't Michael Vicks contract end this year?

Smith's mobile, has a strong arm and is very very smart.

It's never made a damn bit of sense to me that he isn't better than he is.

Given confidence and a reliable scheme, I still think he has the chance to be a well above average NFL quarterback.

I'd deal Cassel AND Jackson for him in a heartbeat.

Hoover 10-11-2010 03:03 PM

You know I was laughed at for years for saying that we need to bring in a veteran to be our QB. I know everyone wants a franchise guy, but there are not many of those around.

I always thought a guy like McNabb would be a nice fit. Can you imagine what we would be thinking if he was under center this year instead of Cassel. That's right, probably at least a deep playoff run.

It sucks to be in the position we are in. Seriously, I'd be pumped if we would have a guy like Sage Rosenfelds under the center. If the coaching staff doesn't believe in Cassel, they need to see what we have in Croyle. All of the coaching decisions yesterday, espically the onside kick, seem to indicate that they don't think Matt can get it done.
