Cassel seems to thrive on doubters. Everyone was worried about him last year against the Rams but he made a point to scramble a couple times just to make the statement he wasn't backing down. I think he goes into this game with something to prove, and that's a good thing.

Cassel is insecure and he will be afraid he might end up losing his starting job if he ever gives somebody else a chance to start. Plays right into the reason Pioli doesn't want any real competition for him either.

meanwhile Pioli has known Cassel for a long time and as yet to bring any real competition to KC since Cassel came over. Why would he take that chance for no reason?

Cassel has lost virtually every QB competition since high school ... has to lead to doubt.

Cassel plays with very little confidence on the field. So little that it effects his ability to play up to his potential.
