There was a chart and I believe it was like 2 seasons before their production would get back to normal. But that was several years ago and I think these injuries are handled better now. Plus a lot of those backs (in the chart) were workhorse ones and I think teams took it easier on them so as not to ruin them as that was the time of feature backs. Charles likely didn't have nearly the carries those guys did in the first place so a "light" season could be pretty similar to how he was used before.
Then take into account the lengthy recuperation time he's had and there's a lot more optimism that Charles should be as good as before.
Knee ligament injuries are getting to where I think we might see players not dropoff and maybe even improve after surgery, similar to Tommy John (which isn't necessarily due to the surgery). But we'll just have to see.
I'm hopeful they'll both look like their 2010 selves, which combined with a solid team around them makes for a great situation. If either one or both is as good or dare I say better than before then we could see some pretty special play.
