As a fan of Royals/Chiefs/Huskers Football and Missouri Football & Basketball.... I've pretty much destroyed my will to get too involved with sports anymore.

Yesterday during the chiefs game instead of yelling at the tv, throwing remotes, and letting it destroy my mood, I just laughed it off and went and did other things. Same with the Nebraska loss to UCLA and the Tigers loss to Georgia.

I'm just content now that I have chosen to root for shitty teams. But I will refuse to jump on any bandwagons... these are my teams for life.

I gave up on the Chiefs when they hired Herman "Milkman" Edwards... Then Haley and now Herm part 2 with Crennel and his 7-11 Defense...

This franchise isnt interested in winning anything, therefore its harder than hell to actually give a shit. They are totally killing my nfl experience...

Well at least we have Sporting KC to save the day…..

Honestly? I stopped being a Chiefs fan 5 years ago. After yet another painful and boneheaded Sunday afternoon loss, I thought to myself "is it worth giving up beautiful fall afternoons spent with my young daughters for this crap?" The answer was a resounding NO, and I've never regretted it for a second. I can't even remember the last time I actually watched a Chiefs game.

If I could get into that stupid sport, I would be all over it. As much as I try to be a fan of soccer, I just gag.

For the past few years I still had season tickets, but it got to be more about the tailgate and such than it was about the game (I can't pinpoint exactly when that started). After last year I decided I was done going to games. When they make a commitment to winning, I'll commit my money to going to games again.
It was odd yesterday. I got home from my run and the Mrs was cooking breakfast when I came in. She said, "It felt good to sleep in. In past years we would have already been in the line to get into the stadium for about a half hour".

You are the best fans in the NFL.
Here, have a jersey.
Look! A shiny object....a big ****ing aeroplane for the National Anthem!
Matt Cassel used to be a Patriot!
Bring beer money. Thanks!
Sincerely,
The Kansas City Chiefs

But I've decided to work a few Sundays and enjoy the games I will be able to watch but not stress about missing the ones I won't. I'm at the point where I don't feel the need to devote my entire Sunday to the Chiefs. Instead, I will hopefully be able to listen to the game at work and be doing something productive.

I will not miss a Sporting game in KC though. I've scheduled work, vacations, and everything I can around those games. I dvr the road games I must miss due to work.

I think Clark is like his daddy and spends all his time focused on soccer as well. If you go to a match, ask him what's up with the Chiefs.

If 60K other people were as smart, that would get Hunts attention.

Reerun_KC 09-10-2012 08:56 AM

Strange thing, is during the first half when the game was close, I found myself sweeping off the patio during a commercial break and actually forgot to go back in to watch the game.

WTF is happening to me and my fandom?

Nzoner 09-10-2012 08:57 AM

I just bumped my thread from 6 years ago.

I have, as of late, been trying to make the Chiefs less of a priority. I used to get so upset at losses that it would ruin Sunday and several days after. I like checking in on twitter and CP to get the latest info, but now the games don't really even seem fun to watch anymore.

I don't think I will ever give up, and I will most definitely watch each game. But I have made a decision that this year...win or lose...it won't impact that rest of my Sunday or my week. I know it doesn't have any impact on the players...That's for certain.

i gave up almost 4 years ago.

dtebbe 09-10-2012 09:09 AM

Well, this is the first year since 1995 that I haven't had Sunday Ticket. I'll just wait for the highlights to be disappointed, and buy my kid a new set of tires for his kart: (unlike the Chiefs he rarely lets me down!)
