FAX

I've decided first thing in the morning I'm calling the SSA and see what they think. Either way, when I go in there, I'm taking a photo of it taped up.

I doubt it's against the law, I suggest you go to www.annualcreditreport.com (free) and see if any accounts have been opened.

Don't be surprised if an Illegal is using your SS#

It's probably not against the law, but if you have any negative impact on your credit, it might be criminally negligent.

You couldn't prove they did anything wrong. The burden of proof is on you.

Social Security. A pipe dream for those who still believe in something.

I haven't paid a dime into SS for the last 15 years :thumb:

Why the **** were you carrying your SS card with you? Leave that shit in a safe at home. If you're not filling out employment shit or other stuff where you need to see it that day, you shouldn't carry it.

Does this place employ illegals or foreigners? If so, it is mostly your fault.

If your report comes back clean, go buy a lotto ticket. That sucks to the nth degree.

So, you have to prove that is how your number was stolen and by whom, what they did with it and how much you are out as a result.

It is legal, in that it is not a crime.

However, that business could be liable if you suffer damages due to this act, and could be sued. May or may not be able to sue the owner or person responsible individually as well as the business.

You have to incur actual damage, you cant just walk into court and say "I'm afraid my identity may be stolen", they'll tell you to come back when something actually happens.

Until then, you could still reasonably make the argument that you now need to pay for a fraud alert and credit monitoring for years, and you could probably sue for the cost and time of doing that.
