Extend Berry, Alex, and cut bait with Dunta.

This man listen to him

They probably cut Sean Smith next year, too.

Understand that means you're hunting for two starting corners in the same offseason.

Direckshun 02-04-2014 06:00 PM

What's your sense, TBG, on the possibility of extending Houston this offseason?

Do you anticipate they'll hold off 'til next year?

TambaBerry 02-04-2014 06:02 PM

This is why I've been preaching corner in the first. Extend Houston next year.

Hog's Gone Fishin 02-04-2014 06:03 PM

Cutting DJ is just dumb . That taking us in the wrong direckshun.

Direckshun 02-04-2014 06:04 PM

Again, we have maximum leverage on Houston right now.

Let's just eat our vegetables before they're the last thing on the plate. Pay the man, and move on.

'Hamas' Jenkins 02-04-2014 06:36 PM

D, that's a pretty sad attempt at grabbing attention.

I don't think Smith is going anywhere this year.

I don't think it's a priority. They won't have a problem franchising him next year.

This is the first I've ever heard of anybody suggesting cutting Derrick Johnson. He has shown zero signs of slowing down, has no injury concerns, is a Pro Bowler, still only 30 years old, and his cap number is decent.

You're only cutting him to save cash. That makes zero sense.

You should lock this thread and hurry to post a re-do...

If we traded Flowers, I woulnd't turn around and spend a 1st rounder on his replacement.

I didn't say this year. I said next year.

Smith signed a three year contract. I can't see him playing it out with the way he folded down the stretch last year.

I'm guessing the Chiefs are looking for a way to part ways with Flowers. He's not a fit for this scheme, and while I don't think Dorsey/Reid/Sutton are slaves to tall corners like Sac suggests they are, I definitely know they aren't down for a 5'9" starter.

Cutting or restructuring Flowers is just too costly, you're dead right. I tried to find a way out that would net the team something positive: a trade (which has the same cap impact as cutting) which would ideally net us a 2nd rounder.

I understand it's unlikely. I was just testing out an idea. That's kind of what these are.

The way you describe it (letting Flowers play out this year, and moving on from him afterwards to save ~$7m) makes the most sense. They can save that amount now, however, and net a 2nd if they were able to secure a trade.
